"This old guitar and my dark sunglasses This sweet concoction is smooth as molasses Nothing to do but breathe all day Until the big moon rises and it's time to play"
Ben sang along with the speakers that he had brought into his new classroom, which was technically a garage. He was the new auto body teacher at Forks High School. After three days of haggling he had gotten the position. It was an R.O.P. class, meaning if the students he taught passed with an B or higher they got college credit. He made it a fun class too, going out and finding old junkers cars for cheap and buying them for his students to fix. So far he had an old BMW in the garage and a old piece of shit Toyota truck. They were perfect for his students to start with and as was his usual policy, he would give each of the them to the two students that worked the most on the project. A memory made him chuckle as he thought of his students back in California. By the end of the year, each of them had gotten a car from his class and had either kept it, or sold it.
Sighing, he moved around the garage. It was late in the afternoon, but he wanted to make sure everything was ready for the next day. As the song moved over to another, he heard a bark and turned from one of the many working benches to see Thor running into the garage, with Maci on his tail. She was giggling and smiling with a sack in one hand and the large dogs leash in the other. "Hey Maci. What are you doing here?" He asked as he knelt down to pet Thor. Breathless she smiled. "Mom made me bring you dinner." She said handing him the sack that he realized now was food. "I have to go home now though, because I have homework." She went to leave then stopped as she remembered Thor. "He can stay here Maci. I'll bring him home later." She just smiled and ran out the door.
Maci had always been shy. Not like Jack. Ben shook his head as he wiped his greasy hands on his already greasy and dirty jeans. That girl was putting him through hell. He had been an ass before she had left, but she had been equally harsh. Their fight had been ridiculous, mainly about how he felt for her and she for him. He had thought it inappropriate since he was her teacher, she thought it ok, since they had known each other for years and he wasn't going to age like herself. But he had argued. She had gotten hurt, and now he had to fix the mess he had made. It was going to be a hard fix too, since she would barely speak to him. He had tried countless times to get her alone, but she had slipped from him every time.
Setting the sack of food down on the working bench, he opened it up and took out a steak sandwich. The steak had been from last nights dinner, and he did love steak. Taking a bite and then giving some to Thor, he walked around the garage, letting the large rolling doors stay open so he could watch the sunset out over the parking lot and the tops of trees.
