Jack lay sprawled out on her queen sized bed with her Akita Rottweiler Thor. One hand resting on his head and petting the soft fur there, she lay listening to her ipod, trying to think of something fun to do. She had come up with loads of ideas, but how to execute them hadn't come to her yet. What she really wanted to do, was jump on her ATV and go ride the hills, but then Ben would follow her and she'd have to deal with is company. Like his presence in the house at the moment wasn't a pain enough. Sighing she rolled over onto her stomach and looked Thor in the eyes. He just lay there looking back and wagged his tail, creating a loud thumping noise. I've got it! she thought as she jumped off the bed and started stripping out of the clothes she had on, trading them for a sports bra, a pair of softy shorts, her Sultan sweats, her old Santana P.E. shirt that had the sleeves cut off, and her running shoes.
Whistling to Thor, she went down the stairs from her loft like room at the same time tying her hair up into a pony tail, and then strapping on her ipod holder to her arm. Thor was ecstatic, he was going for a run. He pounced, well as much as his lumbering body could bounce, and around her excited.
"Thor calm down." Jack laughed as she reached for his choker and leash. The leash was only for show, Thor never went on a leash, he stayed by her side constantly. Putting the choker around his neck she opened the door and let him go out into the brisk air before her. He bounded around the yard waiting for her to pick a song on her ipod. Last of the Wilds by Nightwish was her choice today. Putting it on repeat, she whistled to Thor and started running. He ran along side her, his lumber yet graceful gate keeping up with her quick speed. Jack laughed, she didn't have to be in coyote shape to go fast. Picking up the pace, she jump over fallen trees and ran through the dense undergrowth with Thor right beside her running the whole way. They had always run like this, and Thor loved his workouts. Sometimes Jack would run as a coyote, but today, she was just acting like a normal human, listening to the sounds of music blast in her ears.
Dodging around trees, making it a race with Thor, she smiled as he barked and tried to get ahead of her, but making sure she was always near. Jack just laughed, and kept running, not paying a two bit of attention to where she was going. It was a good time after she had left the house, and she had listened to Land of the Wilds so many times she had lost count that she burst from the trees into a simple little meadow. It was cute, soft pastel flowers everywhere, and the green of the forest and grass made the place tranquil. Jack slowed to a jog and then stopped a good ways into the meadow, and watched as Thor bounded off after a rabbit or something of the like.
"Thor stay close!" Jack ordered, taking her ipod slowly out of her ears, and then turning it down. Now that she could hear what was around her, the birds chirping, the wind in the trees, the soft sound of some animal, the little valley seemed like a sanctuary. Sighing, Jack sat on the soft grass and then lay down on her back, listening. Thor came over and lay with her after a little exploring and with him by her side, Jack put her ipod back into her ears and changed to a soft song she had heard so many times, she didn't really need to listen to it with the ipod.
"Hush-a-Bye Dont You Cry Go To Sleep My Little Baby When You Wake You Shall Have All The Pretty Little Ponies..."
Jack smiled to herself, closing her eyes and allowing herself to be immersed by the music. It was a soft lullaby, one her mother had sung to her as a child, and when it was in a movie not too long ago, it became a song. The girl who sang it had a lovely voice, one she liked listening to and one she could only pick a few mistakes in her vocals out.
"Blacks And Bays Dapples And Grays Running In The Night When You Wake You Shall Have All The Pretty Little Ponies ..."
Jack heaved a sigh, and felt herself nod off, head tilting to the side, eyes closed, she lost herself to the comfort of the place she lay.
----
A few hours later, Thor nudge Jack's shoulder, whining softly as he attempted to wake her up. He could hear something he didn't like, it was just the faintest sound, but it disturbed him and made the hair on his neck rise, making him look slightly menacing.
Jack stretched her arms out as she came awake, unaware of the noise, her ipod still playing in her ears. Pulling them out, she looked at Thor groggily, then up at the sky. Ugh. It was almost dark, and knowing her father, he would send Ben out to find her at least 3 hours after sunset, so she still had time to find her way home. But she didn't want to leave, and like Thor, she didn't know what the noise was coming towards them and getting louder as it neared.

The cold Forks winter air did nothing to stop Marius from exploring his surroundings. He had been in Forks for a week now and it seemed so much had happened in so little a time. He had of course met Amy... The girl that he felt so stupidly drawn to, the girl that he was risking everything for. He knew it would only be a matter of time before she started working out there was something very wrong with him. He kept pushing the thought to the back of his mind, not wanting to think about the future, but selfishly wanting to dwell on the present.
The forests around Forks reminded him so much of the Ardennes, where he had spent so many years as a fledgling vampire. Where he had met the Golden eyed stranger who called himself Carlisle. He found something rather calming about being in the wilderness, perhaps it was the memories it brought back. He had spent a lot of time exploring them since he arrived, they had been most useful for his hunting habits. He had been exploring the area when a new scent had reached his senses. Something he had never smelt before. His nose wrinkled slightly as the curiosity got the better of him and he followed the scents.
As he got closer to the meadow he saw the girl lying down with the dog. Marius knew what dogs smelt like and realised the strange smell was coming from the girl. He watched as the girl looked around, he did'nt want to be rude... So he stepped forward slowly, not wanting to seem a danger. 'Bonsoir Madamoiselle...' His voice was gentle, with a soft french accent. A warm friendly smile graced his lips. He was keen to find out more about Forks and perhaps this strange smelling girl could help him a little.

Jack smelt what it was before she saw the young man walk out of the trees. Another one? she thought as she looked at the vampire in front of her. There were just too many of them here. Shaking her head softly, she looked at Thor, who stood protectively over her, hackles raised as he watched the newcomer walk towards them. Jack put a hand on his back, hushing him with a growl of her own.
'Bonsoir Madamoiselle...'
Raising an eyebrow, Jack watched the young man closely. As far as she could tell, what he had just said was 'hello madam' but she wasn't too sure. Smiling she got to her feet slowly, feeling coyote on the edge of her awareness, ready to jump out when needed. But Jack didn't need her. Not now. The man in front of her looked gentle, not aggressive. She tilted her head sideways and stood her ground, watching the young man closely. He was good looking, but he was different like the Cullen family. He only drank animal blood. Jack couldn't help but smile at the thought.
Placing a hand on Thor's shoulder she waved at the young man. "Hello. What brings you out here so far? There aren't any easy trails, or any trails at all for the matter that lead here." It wasn't rude, it was just matter of fact. She was just curious to why he was out here, but deep down Jack already knew. He was hunting, or just looking around, and had come upon a coyote and her dog. Funny how she had only lived there a month and already she was attracting unwanted attention. But, if she couldn't get along with humans, why not have some friends that weren't humans? That was her logic. "I'm Jack. Whats you name?" It sounded so immature, but she had to ask and with Thor tense beside her, she had to act calm to get him to calm down.

Marius kept a distance watching the dog and the girl calmly. He was curious about her and the curiosity peaked a little as she smiled. He chuckled lightly as she asked her question 'Perhaps I could ask the same of you madame... non?' He flashed a smile her way 'Lets just say I like a challenge... The forest is like a second home to me.' Indeed he had spent they first ten years of his vampiric life living in the Ardennes in France, it was nice to be back among the trees again, though it brought back some painful memories.
Marius bowed his head in greeting, like the gentleman he was 'A Pleasure... My name is Marius' His eyes rested on the dog and his head tilted slightly. He didn't want to come across as a threat, but animals had that sixth sense for danger... Marius was indeed dangerous, though he didn't want to be. 'So Madamoiselle Jack... What brings you to the forest today?' He was curious as to why she was out here, and also about why she smelt so... different to other humans. She wasnt a vampire, that much he did know.

Jack watched the young man closely, trying to relax so Thor would calm down. His snarls whispered through the meadow, a loud hum. She placed her hand on his head looking down at him and glaring. When she heard the young man speak, she looked back up and acknowledged him again.
"You could ask, but I live around here, and took my dog on a walk and ended up here." She laughed at how stupid it sounded. But she did live in the area and she did take her dog on a walk so none of it was a lie, technically. A challenge? Who didn't like one. But this man didn't look the hiker type, not at all. At the thought Jack almost hit herself on the head. He was a vampire, of course he wouldn't look the type, he could do it anyways. Sighing she just nodded at him in acceptance.
Marius. It rolled off the tongue in a way. She liked it. Softening her features she watched him. He acted like a gentleman from a time she only read about. A time where men were actual gentlemen, not complete scum of the earth. His question brought her back from her thoughts, and made her back stiffen. The forest. What had brought her here? Well she could only be what she was out here...But she couldn't tell him that. "My family owns a piece of property just inside the forest and so I like to come out and..." She was stuck on what word to use. Run, seemed to just seemed wrong, who went running off trails in the forest? "...explore." She finally said with a smile.
"What brings you out here Marius?" She said using his name. She could feel her muscles bunch ready to run if she needed to. She didn't want a fight. With Thor she didn't want to start any trouble. She just wanted to be normal, well as normal as she could be, for one day. No vampires jumping in on her, just her and maybe some friends or something. She didn't know. All she knew was that she was continually drawing attention, and it seemed to be her bad luck to attract every vampire in Forks. Great. Dad was going to be thrilled.

Marius kept his distance fro; the snarling dog, he tried to appear relaxed all the time staying alert. So this girl lived around here, he had met many an interesting person in his travels, yet he had never smelt any scent like hers. 'You are lucky to live in such a beautiful area, reminds me so much of the Forests in France' He smiled a little sadly, France, he hadnt been home in so very long. He knew it had changed a lot since he left, but he didnt have the courage to return yet.
She watched her face change slightly, he was relieved, he didnt want to seem a threat. Since he really wasnt, though he knew it was probably a strange sight seeing someone like him wondering through the forest. 'I too like exploring the forests, there is something calming about the trees, the creatures that live within. Though I worry as time goes on, we are becoming a rare breed non?'
He considered her question for a moment, in truth he was living out in the wilderness, until he found a place of his own. That wasnt something her was about to share with her though. He wasnt intending on staying in the area too long, just long enough for him to see if he could find the man who inspired him all those years ago. 'I am in the area, looking for someone. Whilst here I thought I would enjoy what nature has to offer.' He tilted his heqd slightly watching her face for her expressions and feelings. He wasnt a vampire with a gift, though he was sure back in his early years a certain vampires compassion had rubbed off on him.
He looked down to Thor and sighed slightly 'I am under the impression that your dog does not take to me so well non?' He wasnt suprised though, he was sure the dog knew exactly what he was, animals had that 6th sense that told them more than the average human could pick up.

"Yes, this place is beautiful." Jack smiled as she watched Marius. He was right, she was lucky to live in this place. It was so wild and untouched, how the world used to be before all the high-tech stuff started being created. Back when it was simple. At least, that was her thought of it. Oh how she would have loved to live in that time. To be free to run as coyote whenever she wished. That would be splendid. Shaking her head slightly.
"There aren't many of us left. Your right. It seems everyone just wants to stare at computer screens or stay in the indoors where the world is familiar to them. Instead of coming out into the wild and feeling free and at peace." He was right. There weren't many people who appreciated the forests or the wilds of the world. With all the industrialization, wild places are disappearing, which will destroy people like us." She wasn't just talking about nature lovers. She was talking about what she was. If the forest were gone, she would be trapped in only one skin, and she'd most likely loose her mind.
Feeling Thors' rumbling growl against her leg, she looked down at him then at Marius. He was a vampire, not a human or shifter. She needed to remember that. Marius' comment made her laugh. She smiled a lopsided smile and tilted her head to the side. "No. He doesn't like strangers, especailly strange men."

Marius had never been a technology person, he had seen it develop and grow around him but the more he saw the more he hated it. The more people relied on technology the less they worked and the less they appreciated what nature was offering. Marius had spent a lot of his human life working the land, farming and working hard. Now a days the farmers had little true hard work to do, though he found many complained that they did. He had loved living in the county, the fresh air in the mornings and the relaxed feeling nature would bring. Unlike the monstrous cities that had formed, filled with tension and stress. 'It is nice to meet someone who apprieciates it as much as I madamoiselle.' It was getting rarer to find those that truely saw the beauty of a place.
He sighed gently, almost whimsically 'The world is becoming a lazy place... non?' The world changed so much in the 300 years he had been around, sometimes he missed the life of his youth, the most beautiful places were always the places created by nature, the Niagra falls, Grand Canyon... All created by god and not by man. 'Though it saddens me to hear it you are right madamoiselle, if only people could appreciate the beauty around them, rather than looking for a quick fix.' The trees had offered him security in his early years as a vampire, although now he didnt need their security he felt totally at home amongst them, more so than the human structures that adorned the world now.
Marius chuckled lightly 'Ahhh and there are none stranger than a Frenchman wandering in the forests alone non?' He smirked slightly, it was a strange thought for most humans certainly, though he had a feeling there was something not fully human about this girl. Though she certainly didnt seem to be a threat in anyway, and he certainly wasnt going to be with her, unless she initiated it. 'Perhaps one day I will not be so strange one day non? But I am not sure if I will be here for long, though tis a shame for this place is so peaceful' He had a purpose for being in Forks and once he had found that purpose his future there was uncertain.
