Damienne didn't even feel like she was really doing much to comfort Edward anymore. She honestly kind of felt like she was just making it worse somehow. Maybe it was better if she just let it be and just sat with him, maybe that would be enough. She cast her eyes down for a moment as she allowed Edward a quiet moment, free of her just running her mouth. She lifted her eyes again as he spoke, smiling softly at him as he smirked. She laughed lightly, shaking her head when he said that he knew he was right. “Yeah, sure, have it your way,” she replied, teasingly as he chuckled gently. She turned her hand as he touched the back of hers, wrapping her fingers around his and squeezing them gently. She just wished this hadn't happened. They had been so settled and now he was in a state and she didn't know what to do about it. She'd just about managed to work out what she was simply meant to do in his presence. She was a terrible people person.
She shook her head slightly, squeezing Edward's hand again when he said he would stay as long as her dad didn't mind. “I'm sure he won't,” she said softly. “I'm sure he'll understand,” she added, smiling ever so softly. She followed Edward's gaze as he looked at the mashed up phone that was laying on the floor. She hesitated, looking at it for a moment longer before looking to him as he asked to borrow her phone to let Carlisle know he was staying there. “Sure,” she said softly, slowly getting to her feet. She crossed the floor, dragging her feet slightly as she reached her bedside table, picking up the gadget. “So long as mine doesn't end up like yours,” she teased with a gentle smile as she turned back to him. She wasn't sure that a joke was the right thing to voice right now, but she was nervous about what else she was supposed to say. She moved to Edward again, offering the phone to him as she lowered herself to sit on the floor with him once more.
She reached up with one hand, her fingers curling around the crystal pendant Edward had gotten her as a Valentine's present a few days previous. She smirked slightly when he said that going to town was a good idea as he thought he would miss his phone. “It's always the same with things when they're not there,” she began, chewing on her lip for a moment. “You miss them,” she added, nodding, feeling a little stupid for even opening her mouth, let alone saying something like what she had just voiced. She continued to run the crystal and chain through her fingers. She considered Edward's question for a moment before shaking her head slowly. She couldn't think of anything that she needed. “No, not that I know of,” she replied softly. “Can I not come along if I don't want anything other than to spend time with you outside of home and school?” she questioned, teasingly, a smirk playing across her features as she got up from the floor again and moved to her bed and sitting down again, watching Edward from her new comfortable perch.

Nothing Damienne could do or say could really make Edward feel any better. She could distract him that was a plus but at the end of the day everything would still be the same. Alice would still be sick and the Volturi would still be after her and possibly even him. At the moment his mind was so fully of worry, but he didnt want to burden Damienne, he knew she would never fully understand why he felt this way, at least not for now. The situation was so strange that even with her background with the shapeshifters he highly doubted she could fully understand it all. His crooked grion spread across his lips as she said to have it his own way 'I always do.' That was certainly true, he was a stubborn person and no one knew that more than Carlisle. It seemed that he was even more stubborn than Damienne, but then again he had more practice... He had being stubborn down to a fine art and Damienne had no idea how true that really was. He closed his fingers around hers, her hand was so small and fragile in his own. When ever they touched he was always reminded how fragile she really was, even if she didnt know it.
Edward had no doubt that Jason would let him stay if he needed to. Jasons relationship with the Cullen's was a strange one considering he knew exactly what they were. Jason seemed to trust them an aweful lot and Edward often wondered why he was so trusting of them. After all they were all dangerous even though they were 'good' in the sense that they didnt drink human blood. However the tools they needed to kill were there and Edward was playing with fire in letting himself remain close to Damienne like this. However he didnt have the strength to keep away from her... Being stubborn and selfish was what Edward did best and this situation was no different. Edward chuckled as she offered her phone to him... He had done much worse to phones in the past when he was in a temper, this one was faily intact in comparision to the ones he had ground to dust before. 'I promise I'll be gentle...' He said taking her phone and smiling to her. He wasnt going to let Damienne into the secret that he had gone through two phones this year already and it was only February...
He nodded slowly as she said it was always the same... It was true that you dont realise how important something is until they are not there. He wondered for a moment what life without alice would be like but the thought just made him shudder. He didnt want to believe there could be a world without Alice... The world needed her, he needed her. 'We take things for granted so easily...' He muttered before he slowly started dialing Carlisle's number. He of course knew all of their numbers by heart, normally he had them on speed dial since he often typed in the numbers too fast for the phone to recognise them. He had to make a concious effort to slow his fingers down infront of Damienne. Well of course you can... but since you dont NEED anything I will just have to get you something you dont need...' He flashed a grin to her as he hit the dial button and waited for Carlisle to answer, which would only take a second... As long as he was okay that was.
When Carlisle answered Edward looked to Damienne and smiled 'Hey Carlisle its Edward...' He was immediately stopped as Carlisle started to talk over him and the smile from his face faded and was replaced with a look of both anger and worry. 'I'm coming home NOW' He snapped at him down the phone. Alice had run off and Carlisle had let her... He needed to get out there and find her, she was in danger and she needed him. He held his composure and hung up handing the phone back to Damienne, his teeth ground together in anger as he worried about his sister. 'Things have changed... I'm sorry Mia but I need to go home, I cant explain it please understand...' He looked into her eyes and brought her close to him in an embrace. 'I'm so sorry for this...' He said as he took in a deep breath of her scent, she was his strength right now but he couldnt let this situation bring harm to her.

Damienne watched Edward closely as she watched the grin spread across his face. Always with that perfectly crooked grin of his. She smirked slightly when he responded that he always did when she said he should have it his way. He always had to have an answer as well. Well, he always seemed to have an answer for everything. He certainly had a very sharp wit about him, but that could probably be attributed to how damn stubborn he was. She had known some stubborn people in her time...in fact, she still knew the most stubborn people as they were in her own family, but Edward could probably even give them a run for their money if it was about something he felt a particular need to be stubborn and cagey about. He could definitely beat her with stubbornness and she'd practised it around her siblings. She smiled again as he closed his fingers around hers, the change in the cold contact sending a shiver across the surface of her skin.
She smirked and playfully narrowed her eyes at Edward as he took the phone from her hands, promising to be gentle with it. “You better be,” she teased, even though she was slightly worried that his mood would cause him to break the promise. She couldn't afford a replacement phone if he flew off the handle or anything...not that she was expecting him to. She really didn't want that to happen, of course, she just couldn't work Edward out sometimes: just when she thought she knew him, he goes and flips like this, although, it was a perfectly understandable scenario once she thought about it. She nodded slowly as Edward muttered about how they took things for granted so easily. “That we do,” she muttered in reply, watching his hands as his fingers dialled Carlisle's number into her phone. Maybe he felt better for typing it out because he should have known it was in the phone book on the thing. It was pointless thinking about that. It was probably just habit.
She smiled when Edward said she could still accompany him, even if she didn't need anything. As if she needed his permission or something, pffft. The smile faded quickly when he said that since she didn't need anything, he would have to get her something she didn't need. “That's hardly necessary,” she replied gently, fingers curled around the pendant hanging on the chain that was around her neck. “You've already spent far too much on me,” she went on, even though she knew he wasn't going to listen. He'd do what he pleased. She rolled her eyes and shook her head slightly as he flashed a grin at her. Yes, he was definitely going to do it anyway. With Edward distracted by the phone, her mind returned to his words about how easily things could be taken for granted. She understood that little sentiment all too well, her memory bringing up the image of her mother and what would have been her sister in law. Both were gone for the same reason...
She closed her eyes, shaking the thought away and getting to her feet again, allowing Edward a little privacy to speak to his dad. She stopped her motion as she heard Edward cut off his speech behind her, a scowl forming on her face as he then spoke again, sounding more than a little upset. She slowly turned on her heel to face him. He looked more aggravated that she'd seen him previously. She wordlessly looked at Edward taken the phone from his hands and tucking it in her pocket. She couldn't deny the sinking feeling when he said things had changed, apologising and saying he had to go home. She nodded slowly, just about meeting his gaze as he said he couldn't explain, practically begging her to understand and pulling her close to him again. She closed her eyes for a moment, shaking her head briefly when he apologised again. “Your family needs you,” she muttered, a little upset by the change of events, but they clearly couldn't be helped. “I'm not gonna get in the way,” she added sadly.
She opened her eyes, looking up at Edward finally. She considered her words carefully before she allowed them to leave her mouth. She wanted to ask if she could come with him, but she knew he wouldn't let her. His words before were enough to make it seem like he really didn't want her around for this. “Just remember I'm here if you need me,” she murmured softly, chewing on the inside of her lip. She looked down, glancing around the room now, uncertain of what else she was supposed to do. Her eyes caught sight of the books littered around the room. “You can leave your things here. I'll bring them to school on Monday,” she offered, figuring all other plans would be cancelled now things had changed. “You don't need anything else delaying you,” she continued, looking up at him. She let out a gentle sigh before standing on her tip toes to press her lips against his cheek. “Go home, Edward. They need you,” she muttered into his ear before dropping down onto the pads of her feet again, holding his gaze the best she could.

The grin remained as he heard her thoughts, of course he had been practicing his wit and charm for over a century. He had also had all of that time to perfect his stubborness, so no wonder he was the most stubborn person she knew. The feeling of her warm hands in his cold ones reminded him how different they were from each other. An image flashed through his mind which made him wince slightly, something that Alice had seen when she first met Damienne. That day was very testing for Edward, of course he could see everything Alice thought and saw... Seeing what Damienne would look like as a vampire, cold marble skin and perfect features made him feel sick. He couldnt let that future happen, he would let Damienne lose her soul as he had his. Alice's visons were strange of late and he was determined to believe that the one she had seen of Damienne as that hauntingly beautiful creature was wrong. He didnt want her to become a monster like he was.
He turned to hide his smirk as she though about how she couldnt afford a new phone if he broke it. Like money was even an object for her... If she needed something then Edward would have no problems getting it for her, especially if he was the reason it was broken. He knew Damienne would have a problem with him buying her things but she would just have to deal with it. Its not like Edward had anyone else but himself to spend his money on and it wasnt like he was short of the stuff either. He of course hadn't forgotten that Carlisles number would be on her phone, however Edward didnt really want to go rifling through her contacts... That would be rude and it wasnt as if he didnt know Carlisles number anyway. That was the problem with the Vampiric memory, you never forgot anything, no matter how big or small. Though it was useful for things like numbers it also meant all the bad things were never forgotten... Like the looks on the peoples faces Edward had killed when he had run away for a bit. He shuddered slightly at the memory as he put the phone up to his ear.
He watched as her fingers curled around the pendant around her neck, it had been Alice's idea to get it. Alice was better at this kind of thing, she was used to buying Jasper presents where as Edward had never bought anyone a present before. He of course had some input into what they got but he relied strongly on Alice to work out what Damienne would and wouldnt like. 'Like you would have a choice in the matter Mia...' He chuckled gently. He had a feeling he would enjoy buying her things in town, even if the enjoyment would come from seeing her thoughts as he did so... Edward seemed to find most of her thoughts amusing, though of course there were thoughts of hers that worried him. 'You see I would say I havent spent enough... I guess we both have very different views on that.' He turned again just as Carlisle answered the phone and as Damienne started thinking of her mother... He still hadnt talked to Damienne about her but from what he could gather she, like most of Damienne's family, was a shapeshifter.
He hated the fact that he would have to cancel their plans together, however this was Alice and she was in danger. His teeth gritted together, he could tell that Damienne was upset that their plans had to change. He didnt WANT them to change, he only wished he could explain why. He made a frustrated noise as he ran his fingers through his messy hair 'I... Just wish I could explain...' He growled slightly, he wanted to tell her, help her understand how important it was for him to go. He knew it would only worry her more though. 'Theres been a change... Carlisle needs my help with Alice...' He closed his eyes 'I wouldnt go unless... It was urgent.' He didnt want Damienne to worry, but all the same she had to understand that he wouldnt just walk out on her for no reason. He could hear the sadness in her voice 'You would never be in the way Mia... Please believe that.' He whispered gently.
He held her gently as she considered what to say to him before offering her support. 'I know Mia... You really dont know how much that means to me.' He had never had anyone outside his family who was there for him. It was nice to have someone there to share his problems and his problems alone... Carlisle and Esme had everyone elses worries to worry about and as well as each others. Edward had always been jealous of their bond, he was the only one in the family after all who was mateless. 'I will be back as soon as I can... if I can be. I wish I could promise I will be but I dont want to make a promise I cant keep.' He whispered sadly, he didnt want to leave her like this but right now Alice needed him more. He looked into her eyes and leaned forward gently kissing her on the lips before he had to tear himself away with a pained look on his face. He was only going home, but it felt like he was leaving part of himself behind...

Damienne pulled a slight face at Edward when he teased her about having a choice in the matter if he were to buy her things. It wasn't like she could stop him. “Oh, gonna pin me down and force new things upon me, are you?” she questioned, laughing lightly at her own question. Despite her protests, she imagined he would do it regardless. It seemed to have made him seem a little happier, so she wasn't going to stop him. She just knew she would feel bad for him spending the money on her and her not doing anything in return. She tilted her head, a slightly confused scowl spreading across her expression. “You think you haven't spent enough?” she asked in a surprised tone. She glanced down at the pendant that was resting against her skin, considering it for a moment before continuing. “But surely this was already pretty expensive. It's custom crystal...” she faltered off with her words, knowing that it was pointless arguing with him about it.
She glanced down, grimacing slightly as Edward made a frustrated noise and ran his hand through his hair, wishing he could explain. She lifted her head, shaking it slightly. “You don't have to,” she replied gently, seeing he was definitely frustrated about it. “I know...” she muttered when he said he wouldn't go if it wasn't urgent. It didn't help her worries too much though. She was going to worry about it, regardless of what Edward said and she would worry right up until the moment she was told that things were okay again. She lowered her head for a moment when he tried to reassure her that she would never be in the way. She knew she could get in the way, despite what people say to her. She always felt like she was in the way, she was the youngest Renton, so didn't have much of a say like the others, having them all decide for her when she was growing up and, now, she just sort of felt like a pain to Edward and his family. If she wasn't at school, she was at home with Edward or at Edward's with him.
“What's a...girl to do?” she questioned, shrugging slightly when he commented on her offer of support. She had almost said 'girlfriend', but it sounded completely wrong for her to say it somehow. Well, not wrong, just weird maybe? Maybe because those words had never been used in conversation. “Besides, I'd like to think you'd do the same if the situations were reversed,” she observed with a soft, subtle smile. She tilted her head slightly as she listened to him say he'd be back as soon as he could be, wishing he could promise it, but not wanting to promise something that he wouldn't be able to stick to later. “I know you will,” she replied, the soft smile still on her face. “But right now you're wasting time,” she pointed out gently. She closed her eyes as Edward pressed his lips against hers before leaving. She appreciated that he didn't say 'goodbye' as she kept her eyes closed, unable to watch him leave. She detested that word unless it was a permanent goodbye and she definitely hated him leaving.
