Born on August 23rd 1960, to parents Lycan and Frances Renton in West Lothian, Scotland, Jason Lycan Renton was the youngest of the two children Lycan and Frances had together, the first being Jason's older sister, Louisiana. Their mother worried about them getting along, but it seemed Louisiana took to Jason quicker than she would have expect, with minimal sibling envy, which was what she had originally feared. Lycan did take a more vested interest in young Jason as he was the man's first son. As Jason got older, he didn't particularly enjoy being daddy's little boy, being hounded about being a successful businessman who could look after his family when he was older. Jason was going to do as he pleased.
The family moved to back to Seattle, Washington, where Lycan was from, when Jason was thirteen, Louisiana being sixteen at the time. Louisiana and Jason were sent to their new schools, Louisiana fitting in quicker than Jason could, as the younger boy was used to the quiet little Scottish school he had developed in. Whilst in the new school, his interest in music grew, getting him a shot at the school radio station when he was closer to finishing high school. Alongside music, his father's influence made him inclined to look into engineering, mechanics and electricals being the choices he made for university. As it was, he had met Selena Pryce and not long after his eighteenth birthday, they found out she was pregnant with their first child, who would later be Dorian Renton.
This did not put Jason off going through university in order to get more qualifications, no, this only made him want to do better for his family, as his father had wished for him so long ago. On the day of his graduation, he and Selena having gotten married a few weeks before he had started university as it was, they were expecting their fifth child, but the day was no as happy as they all thought it might be. Sadly, a heart attack stopped Frances Renton, Jason's mother, from attending the ceremony, for him to later be told that she passed away at the hospital on his way to see her. This certainly put a downer on Jason's life from that point on, but he tried his best for his family regardless.
A short while after child number six and seven, Summer and Gregory, the only twins in the family, were born, they moved to the reservation in La Push, somewhere Jason had spent a fair few of his summers, it being where Selena was from. It was certainly a better place to raise a larger number of children, sending them all to the local schools, just how Jason had had it when he as their age. They were finally settling when Selena discovered she was pregnant again, with child number eight. Sadly, this new daughter didn't make it, dying whilst Selena was giving birth unfortunately, but this didn't seem to put the Rentons off from more children, having another child, Damienne a year or so later.
Jason knew all along that there was something different about Selena, but he never really questioned it. It was when their eldest son, Dorian, started acting rather strangely, his attitude and appearance changing quite a lot. This was when Selena told him about the Quilluete legends and that it was likely that some of their children would eventually become shape shifters. As it was, and as it still stands, their sons have all become shape shifters, with the exception of Stevie, one of their daughters, also becoming one. It was this secret that eventually killed Selena, her brother, Malachi, disliking the idea of the little family unit they had going for them. That was just the way he was.
Jason has never remarried, now moving himself and Damienne to Forks in order for her to finish school without the distraction of her bickering siblings. He was quite concerned about how she would be about the change, but she seemed to take it quite well, thankful that her father was taking her away from them. He hoped it would give her a chance to make some good friends and be able to finish of high school better than it seemed she would in La Push. It allowed Jason to get a job in a better garage, having felt like he was more of a free lance mechanic in the place in La Push and his other alternatives of job choice there being very limited, if not, altogether rather pointless. Character Appearance:
- Hair Color: Brown - Eye Color: Brown - Height: 6'1" - Weight: 155lbs - Handedness: ambidextrous, though writes with right - Distinguishing Features: slightly crooked nose, freckled face
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ adept mechanics/engineering skills + multilingual (English, French, German, Scots Gaelic, Latin) + open minded/accepting + intelligent/quick witted +/- Damienne - cars (in a 'he sees one, he wants one' kinda way) - unable to trust easily - shuts himself away - can't say what he thinks Personality:
Jason has always been sort of self assured, never relying on anyone because ‘if a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing yourself’. This ultimately makes him seem very arrogant, which most of the time is an unintentional quirk. He has also, when he was younger, seemed very cold on the surface. Something that has changed as he got older and became a father. Jason likes being in control of situations, which atones to the fact he likes to be in charge and the fact that he doesn’t like being undermined. He enjoys being right a lot of the time too, which is an attribute of his arrogant nature. He is sort of OCD and likes to make sure everything is perfect, running things through his head until he is sure that he's practically spot on.
Jason doesn’t like having to conform to the ideals of others. He is who he is and everyone else will just have to put up with that. Why should he have to be the same as everyone else when clearly he is very different? He doesn’t like it when people try to undermine him or talk down to him. It often makes him quite angry. Jason dislikes people who abuse their powers and/or their authority. He believes that it is wrong to abuse power as this is what his father does and always has always seemed to have done. He tends to clench his jaw and grind his teeth when he gets riled, but wants to keep quiet about it. He has always tried to stay very calm on the surface in order to stop people reading him too easily. RP sample:
It had been a long day and Jason was glad to be home. Parking the car out the front and whistled an unknown tune as he made his way inside with the usual spring in his step. It had been a slow day and to be home was a blessing, though of course he loved his job. He was intending on working some more on Damie's car that evening. As he opened the door he called up knowing she was home, having seen her car in the drive 'Frankie I'm home!' He took off his coat and hung it up before heading to the kitchen to wash his hands.
Opening the fridge he rooted around for something to snack on before dinner, pulling out some cheese. He continued to whistled as he cut a slice off popping it in the mouth before putting it back and hopping up the stairs knocking on Damie's door. 'Frankie you okay? Had a good day?' He often worried whether she was settling in okay, he was sure she thought him the fool. He knew she could take care of herself, still though what kind of dad would he be if he didnt worry?
