Carlisle escorted the young woman into the kitchen, waving toward a stool at the bar. “Have a seat.” He offered, heading toward the cabinet that housed drinking glasses. “I'm sorry that we don't have anything to offer you as far as food, but I'm sure you knew that.” He added, a knowing smile crossing his features. Withdrawing a crystal glass Carlisle filled it with filtered tap water, Esme was very particular about what the plants got, and set it in front of Jack.
Staying on the other side of the island, giving her space, he smiled once more, hoping to inspire confidence in the young woman. “So, I gather your family is new to Forks?” he questioned, leaning against the marble counter behind his back. [/blockquote]

Jack followed Carlisle quietly, and when they walked into a beautifully furbished kitchen, she had to raise an eyebrow. It was a beautiful kitchen, and her aunt would have appreciated it. When she was offered a seat, she sat down and watched Carlisle.
"Its fine, I just ate a little while ago." She said softly. She was checking her surroundings and keeping an eye on this man. When he spoke, she listened and nodded her head.
"Yes, we're new here. My father was going to come and speak with you, but when I ran into Alice, Edward and Amanda I decided that it would be best to talk with you immediately." She said in a calm voice. "My family and I don't want any trouble, actually we would rather be friend than have grudges and fights between us. In San Diego, we were aquainted with both the werewolves and vampires of the area, who lived much like you do here, and it was quite peaceful and nice. We're not here to take over, just to live. My father is an author and tattoo artist, so he won't be any trouble, and my aunt stays at home. We won't be trouble for you if you don't make trouble with us. As I said we would just like to be friends."
She stopped. Realizing she had repeated herself a few times. She blushed softly, but kept eye contact. This doctor, Carlisle, was interesting. They were like the family, or coven, that had lived in San Diego. Simple and kind. All of us had gotten along down there, and somehow it had all been peaceful. Thinking of the peace and scents in Forks, a thought crossed her mind.
"I do have a question though," She began slowly. "Why is there a scent of wolves in the forests? It's everywhere along the rim of our property, and quite annoying. We figured it was another pack of shape-shifters, but we aren't for certain. Do you know anything about it?" Jack was okay with werewolves, but wolves like that were like her, pissed her off. They thought they were better than lesser canines, like dogs and coyotes. That irritated Jack immensely.

Carlisle nodded as the girl replied that she didn't need anything to eat. He listened earnestly as she spoke, taking in every word. It was difficult for him not to chuckle slightly at the situation. “You will find that we as a family aren't look for trouble either. I fear that your run in with Edward might have skewed your perception of us.” Pausing Carlisle tried to discern how to describe his son without insulting the young man. “Edward can be a bit … aggressive at times, and his frustrations have been known to flair into anger.” Now that he thought about it, Rosalie wasn't the greatest example of Cullen calmness either. “My wife and I are the leaders of our small coven, and I assure you we only want peace.”
Seeing the child blush caused Carlisle to smile broadly. What a sweet, innocent child stood before him. No wonder her father worried so. “The reason you smell wolves is quite simple, they are there. I fear I cannot say more without betraying their trust in me, and my ability to keep their secret. We live in peace with them, as we do with humans. I am sure that if you stay long enough, you too will run into them one day.”
His smile turned more fatherly before he continued. “I'd be glad to meet and speak with your father and aunt any day. Perhaps they could come over for supper sometime? Esme is always itching to use the kitchen, and she thinks herself to be a good cook.”

Jack snorted a laugh. She couldn't help it. Edward had acted extremely aggressive and a pain in the ass. Nodding she listened to Carlisle, as he spoke of himself and his wife.
"Great, so we have to acquiant myself with the wolves." Jack muttered. "That'll be fun." She looked up at Carlisle and smiled, "We have a problem with 'wolves'. We tend to not agree. But yes, we will be staying here a while."
She thought of how her father wanted her to stay away from Santee and the possible fight brewing down there, but how she longed to be in the middle of it at Jessi's and Adam's side and helping them plan and keep everyone safe, but hopefully it would be fine and there would be no fighting. Looking down at her hands she listened to Carlisle. He was smart, she could tell, and he seemed kind.
"My father will want to meet you and so will my aunt. I'll have to talk to them." This was all she was meant to 'report'. Oh how she snarled at that word. She was stronger than her father and yet he still persisted on bossing her around. "One more thing. If you see any coyotes out in the woods, don't eat them." She smiled lopsidedly at Carlisle. "We don't want an accident and it really hurts when they happen so..." She left the end blank. Leaving out her incident of Stefan, an old friend, nearly accidentally killing her in the hills around Santee. It hadn't gone all that well.

Carlisle stayed silent at the comment about not getting along with the wolves. His family and the wolves did not get along very well either, but they had a semblance of peace, and that was enough for him. “Not to worry.” Carlisle said, “I don't think any member of my family will be forgetting your scent any time soon.” If he was capable of blushing, Carlisle would have done so. “Not to say that your scent is unpleasant, quite the opposite in fact. It is just quite unforgettable.” A crooked smile crossed his features as he rose from the counter against which he leaned. “I guess we should return to the group, I wouldn't want your cousin to think I've made a snack of you.”
He began to head back into the living room, pausing a moment before he did so. “And please, let me know if my children give you any difficulties. Edward and Rosalie especially.”

Jack couldn't help laughing as she nodded and rose. Carlisle looked like such a teenage boy when he smiled, it made her laugh. On top of that he seemed to agree with the fact that some of his family were pains in the asses. I liked that.
"I'm sorry. It's no disrespect to you. I just find some of what you say amusing." She said, then shook her head."Obviously. But yes. I've got to check on my cousin, she freaks sometimes when she's alone."
