Things had been faring better in the Cullen household as of late. I had been a month since anything bad had happened to Alice, Jasper was starting to get his grip back on his hunger and Edward was happier than any of them had ever seen. Damienne had been a blessing, despite her family background, she had brought something missing to Edwards life. Alice was glad to see Edward happy, though she wasnt the only one, she knew Carlisle and Esme were also happy that their eldest son had finally found something in his life worth living for. Alice however still had doubts about herself and the situations that had arisen last month. Though she hid it as best she could from her family, she was constantly scared that she was going to do something to hurt her family. No matter how much Jasper reassured her, there was always that doubt and that vision in her mind of her killing all those students... There had been no real temptation in terms of blood for her, Jasper had a harder deal on that than her, but still there was that doubt that still lingered.
The house was empty for the moment, Jasper had gone hunting with Emmett. Carlisle was insistant that Jasper kept himself topped up on animal blood at all times to make things easier for his blood lust. So far it seemed to have worked, though of course it hadnt been easy. Esme and Rosalie had decided to take Fae out for the day, they were probably shopping and spoiling her as usual... Fae hadnt been there long but Rosalie and Esme seemed to dote on her every need. Edward, suprise suprise had made arrangements to spend the day with Damienne. Alice felt a little upset she had been left out of everyones plans but sitting in her room pouting all day wasnt going to change anything. Of course Carlisle was still in the house, shut away in his study, probably going over some new medical journal. Relationships between Alice and Carlisle had been a little strained since the hunting trip, she didnt want things to be that way, but she was still reeling from drinking human blood and attacking Jasper.
She sighed softly as she finished reorganising her wardrobe, she couldnt help but feel happy that she had been feeling better of late. Though there was a new guilt playing on her mind at the moment. Carlisle didnt deserve her negative feelings, he was only trying to help her and looking back she could see the pain in his eyes when Edward had first brought her in that day. She turned and left her room, her fingers ran along the wall as she slowly made her way to his office... She took in a deep breath, the last time she had done this was when she had confronted Carlisle about her headaches. Though this trip to his office shouldnt end so dramatically, at least she hoped not. It seemed like so much had happened in such a short time, yet it felt like such a long time since they were at Isle Esme, enjoying being a family. She tried to stay on the positive side, it was hard sometimes, but things were getting better.
Alice looked at the door to Carlisle's study and stepped up gently knocking and entering as she heared Carlisle call her in. Of course he knew she was there, it was simply something they did out of respect. Carlisle's office was his place of solitude during these tough times and she didnt want to disturb him if he didnt want to be disturbed. She looked up as she entered and smiled, as ever Carlisle was there for her... She knew he would always be there for his family no matter how tough things got. He was what kept the Cullens all together, she couldnt ask for a better dad. 'I'm not disturbing anything am I?' Her eyes looked around the paintings that adorned his study, the portraits of his past. It made her sad sometimes that Carlisle knew so much about his past and yet Alice knew nothing.
She often wondered what her life as a human had been like. She looked back to Carlisle 'I just wanted to talk to you whilst everyone else was out...' At least this would be private, there was no one around to hear them. There was always a lack of privacy in the Cullen house, especially with Edward around. She felt calmer now there was no one around though. She sighed gently about what was about to come, she knew Carlisle didnt want or need her apologies, but she wanted to give one. 'Carlisle... I just wanted to apologise for the way I've been acting... I know your only trying to watch out for Jasper and I, I should appreciate that more.' She offered a sad and sorry smile, she knew how stressed Carlisle had been and sometimes her attitude hadnt been helping things at all. whos in the house?: Carlisle Cullen what I'm wearing: Here! count down!: 842 lyrics in my head: Evanescence - Away from me who did this?: Moi! notes: [/blockquote]

Carlisle was glad that things with the family were starting to settle a little better now. It was still unsettled ground, but they were all building on that and would soon be back to their usual selves...or so he hoped. He had his doubts about things being exactly as they were before: the trouble with Alice was still a mystery case to him; Jasper was just about getting his restraint back, but that was going to take a lot of time for him to properly adjust again; Edward was happy having Damienne to concentrate on when he had to distract himself from what was going on at home; the family were all distracted with Fae, Rosalie more especially. They could get back to how they had been in their states of mind, but they couldn't deny the changes of the last month. They would adapt. They would adjust. They always did. They had to. He himself was still trying to make sense of what had happened with Alice. Without the answers as to why it had happened, he couldn't being to imagine how it had happened.
He had remained in his study as he had heard each member of his family leave the house, all except Alice: Jasper was following his dietary suggestions and Emmett was reinforcing it; Esme and Rosalie had taken Fae out for the day, as they tried to do from time to time to keep the young girl entertained; Edward was out with Damienne again he wagered, as the boy was either out hunting, which he knew he definitely wasn't, or some place or other with Damienne, he only knew they weren't at school because it was a Saturday. It was one of those rare Saturdays that Carlisle had been allowed to take to himself. He knew the hospital would be able to reach him if they really had to. Alice didn't seem to fit into anyone's arrangements. He was oddly surprised by the fact that she hadn't chosen to join Esme and Rosalie. Even if the pair hadn't invited her, he was certain that, had she wanted to go with them, she would have gone with them regardless. That was just the way Alice could be sometimes.
He knew she was still having issues with what she did to Jasper, but he didn't understand why she was still holding herself back. Everyone else seemed to have passed over that little event, even Jasper, so why was she still lingering on it? He pinched the bridge of his nose as he closed his eyes and scowled. They had to get to the bottom of this and quickly. Jasper could only justify everything Alice had done for so long. Granted, Carlisle had to admit that the Southern vampire was doing a great job of it, despite Alice's reluctance to actually listen to what her mate was trying to say. He knew she wasn't exactly with his choice of a course of action in trying to help her either. He felt like she still resented him for it, but he couldn't have exactly stood back and do nothing, but watch as one of his five children collapsed from an obvious hunger right before his eyes. He hadn't planned for Jasper to jump in as he had done. That had been the spontaneous plan of the young blonde vampire.
He lowered his hand slightly, opening his eyes slowly as he heard Alice approaching his office. Well, at least she was moving in that direction, whether her intent was coming to see him or not was questionable. He was oddly surprised when he heard her knock on the door. “Come in, Alice,” he greeted, trying to sound pleasant. He couldn't be cold with Alice, even if he tried. He tried to keep focused on his work. He knew their conversations were a little strained without him keeping all of his fatherly focus on the young, fragile vampire. He let out a soft breath when she asked if she was disturbing something. “Of course not,” he replied as he flipped his files closed, swivelling his chair around to face her, a smile on his face. “I always have time for you,” he added pleasantly. He watched her for a moment as she looked at all of the paintings that was dotted around on the study walls, pieces of his past that would fit together if he took the time to paste them all together again.
He nodded slowly as she turned to him and stated her purpose of being in the office. Had she planned on talking to him once everyone had left? If she had, she had been lucky to have everyone out at once...that or she had seen it. Were her visions finally readjusting back to how they had been? “What's on your mind?” he questioned softly, tilting his head slightly as he observed Alice. She did seem a little edgy still. Part of the aftermath of everything that had happened, he assumed. He closed his eyes slowly as she began her apology. Was she really doing this? “Alice...” he began, sounding a little disdained as he opened his eyes to look at her again, taking in the sad and sorry smile on her face. He stood and approached Alice, placing both of his hands on either of her shoulders. “You don't have to apologise to me,” he began instantly. He was certain she was hearing this a lot lately. “It's all part of being a father,” he added with a smile. “If I couldn't handle it, I wouldn't be very good at that, would I?” he questioned gently.

Alice knew that Carlisle had been spending a lot of time by himself as of late. Though she didnt really blame him, the family seemed to have divided into little groups and Carlisle was the one pulling everything together. She wished she hadnt brought so much pain to him, Carlisle had been nothing but kind and understanding. He had welcomed Alice and Jasper without question into his family, she knew he could have easily turned them away. Alice loved her family, they accepted her for who she was and they were always there when she needed them. Of course sometimes things could be strained, but they had never had anything as extreme as this before. Hearing his voice telling her to come in made a slight shiver run up her spine, she wasnt really looking forward to the tense moments that would follow this. Alice's gaze moved from the portraits to the floor as he said he always had time for her, she was getting that horrible deja vu feeling and it unsettled her greatly. She only hoped this trip to the office would end a little better than the last.
Alice hadnt really been planning this little meeting, but it had been playing on her mind a lot. She didnt want to seem scared or weak to the rest of her family, but she felt so terribly guilty at the way she had been treating them and she couldnt hold it in for any longer. She had sighed when he asked what was on her mind, there was so much on her mind and she didnt even know where to start. Most of the things she wanted to keep to herself though, she didnt want to trouble Carlisle with all her worries and woes, he had enough to deal with for himself to warrant piling more on his shoulders. She watched him sadly as he said her name, she knew he would think her silly for having to say all this. She sighed as he approached her and laid his hands on her shoulders, Carlisle was so understanding and loving, how could she not feel bad? She shook her head slowly, she did have to apologise, otherwise what kind of person would she be?
'Carlisle... I have brought so much negativity to the house, I cant ignore it. I know that if effects everyone, including you and I cant ignore that. You have been nothing but kind to Jasper and I since we arrived, but I have never brought such trouble to the family in the past.' She closed her eyes and looked down to the floor, Carlisle was the only father she could remember, she knew he loved her unconditionally, as did Esme, but that didnt mean she wanted to add to his troubles. 'Your the best father I could ever ask for Carlisle you took us in without question. You and Esme have loved us like your own children even though we are not. You havent treated us any different to Edward, Emmett or Rosalie and I cannot fault you for that.' She took in deep breath and opened her eyes again looking up to him 'But how can I not be sorry for all the trouble I have caused?' Her eyes were filled with deep emotional pain, she hated this, all of this. She hated pretending and lying and hiding her feelings.
Carlisle was always so understanding, without him the Cullen family really would fall apart. She closed her eyes again and in a move totally un Alice like she moved forward wrapping her arms around him. She had been treading so lightly around Jasper and he had his own problems, she felt she needed some sort of reassurance that everything was going to be okay, even if she didnt believe it. She had never felt so low, or so scared in her life but she didnt want to admit that to anyone. 'Will it really get better Carlisle? I want to know the truth, because I cant see whats going to happen and it scares me.' She knew deep down that Carlisle didnt have the answers she seeked, he didnt know any better than she did. But still she needed someone to tell her what they thought, she wanted to know the truth, she didnt want half truths anymore. If Carlisle thought there was no hope for her and that her visions would come to pass... She wanted to know.
As she stood there holding onto Carlisle she felt pain shoot through her head again, she let out a shocked cry as her fingers curled onto the fabric of Carlisles shirt. Her eyes shot open, she didnt want this again, why now? She pushed herself away from Carlisle and turned away, her hand rising to her head as she rushed for the door. She didnt want this again, not after things had been going so well. Alice didnt want to cause her family any more pain. She felt herself stumble feeling another pain shoot through her head and down her spine as she let out another cry. She felt herself hit the ground and roll, tumbling down the small flight of steps as her body spasmed, she heard a female voice whispering, but she couldnt make out the words as she felt a hot searing flame shoot through her limbs, her eyes shut closed and her teeth gritted as she suddenly felt herself go numb and everything went dark. The whole episode was over within seconds and left her lying there on the stairs not moving. whos in the house?: Carlisle Cullen what I'm wearing: Here! count down!: 935 lyrics in my head: Evanescence - Away from me who did this?: Moi! notes: Poooor Alice! Carlisle didn't like spending time isolating himself away from the family, but he was doing this for the sake of the family he loved so much. He needed to get to the bottom of all of this in order for things to start resembling normality for them again. Yes, a lot of things had changed, some things that they couldn't change back, some things that they wouldn't change back...and there was certainly a lot that they wouldn't forget, that they couldn't forget. They were vampires. They generally had a photographic memory and a lot of time to play those memories over and over. Time was a vast concept when you didn't have to sleep or eat or do any of the usually necessary things to stay alive. All you had to do was hunt to keep you strong and simply exist. He knew the family was struggling, but this was all for the good of the family. It was a necessary evil to be able to come to a better end.
He scowled slightly as she shook her head. She clearly felt a great need to apologise right now, even though he didn't feel like she had to, especially not to him. “Negativity always finds us somehow, Alice,” he began in a gentle reply. “It's a slight inevitability with our kind sometimes and it cannot be avoided,” he continued, trying to keep his voice calm and soothing. He couldn't manipulate emotions as well as Jasper could. All he could do was try his best as a father figure. “We're a family. We're supposed to go through things like this together,” he said softly. He shook his head slowly as she said she had never brought such trouble to the family before. “It was obviously your turn,” he insisted gently. Everyone had gone through a bad patch in their lives with the Cullens. He was the first to know that. What they were and their way of life wasn't exactly the easiest thing to cope with. He tightened his grip of Alice's shoulders encouragingly as she continued to speak to him, saying what she clearly needed to say.
“Of course we love you, Alice. We love you all. We can't love any one of you differently,” he replied, jaw tightening at the thought. He needed his family around him as much as they needed him around them. They were a family unit. That was how they worked. “You're all different, I understand that, but you're all worthy of the love we give you. We love you all the same,” he continued. He didn't think he'd ever have to have this sort of conversation with Alice. She was usually so certain in the family ties. He shook his head when she questioned how could she not be sorry for the trouble she had caused. “Because the ones that love you will always know when you're sorry, even if you don't say it out loud,” he answered carefully. He meant every single words. He had always felt strongly about this statement, ever since the first time Edward had returned to him after running away so many years ago. He hadn't wanted the young vampires apology then and he didn't want Alice's now. He didn't need to hear it.
He let out a soft sigh as Alice moved forward and wrapped her arms around him. He returned the gesture, wrapping his arms around the small girl's shoulders. “Of course it will...” he began in a soft whisper. “We're all here. We can fix this. As long as we stick together,” he continued in his low whispered tone. He didn't want her to be afraid of the future. They were all there to stand by one another. They would get through this. It was just another obstacle that they had to tackle. They would make it to the other side. They always did. He was slightly startled by Alice's cry and how she curled her fingers against his shirt. “Alice?” he questioned, starting to unwrap his arms from around her shoulders to observe her better. He scowled heavily as she pushed away from him and turned away, grabbing her head. “Alice, what's wrong?” he questioned, worry blatantly obvious in his voice now. He slowly followed her as she wandered out of the office. He was more prepared for her cries as she did it again.
He paused on the landing, only to find himself listening to Alice falling down the stairs to the first little landing. “Alice!” he shouted, rushing to her. He reached the top of the stairs to see her lying on the half way landing, her body shaking as she lay there. He slowly moved towards her as she closed her eyes and he heard her grit her teeth. “Alice, are you alright?” he questioned. It definitely wasn't like her to fall down the stairs or be this way. Was this related to the previous incident? Carlisle couldn't be quite sure. “Alice?” he called out to her as he knelt down beside her as her body stopped moving. He couldn't go through the standard procedures with Alice. She was a vampire: checking pulses and breathing patterns didn't really help here. “Alice, it's Carlisle, speak to me,” he whispered as he leant over her, reaching a hand across to her cheek. He couldn't be sure if she could hear him or that if she could, if she wouldn't be disorientated. He didn't like this one bit and he wasn't sure if it helped or not with all of the others being out.

Alice was so used to being the Cullen that was always sure of everything, she was also used to being the most light hearted. Lately however she had felt neither of these things, it was strange and alien to her, she didnt like it one bit. However she knew that the same was for Carlisle, he was used to knowing what to do in difficult situations, but she had presented him with one that he had no idea how to fix. The family was struggling and it was all because of her, well some more than others. Edward had found refuge in Damiennes company, Rosalie had Fae... Infact the only Cullens really struggling now were Jasper, Carlisle and her. It wasnt fair that she was bringing pain the the two people she loved so dearly, especially Jasper, he had enough troubles without having to deal with all her negative emotions. She couldnt see the atmosphere getting better any time soon, it was slowly starting to heal but it would take so long for everything to go back to the way things were before... If they ever did at all, Alice didnt know if they ever could. At least she didnt know if she ever could, after all her visions hadnt really been all that encouraging about her own future...
She sighed as Carlisle said that negativity always found them somehow, she didnt want it to find them, she wanted her family to be happy, and most of all safe. She had been driven to the point of thinking that her family might be better off without her, though Edward had scolded her harshly for allowing her to think that. She looked up into his eyes, her own filled with a deep sorrow 'Carlisle... This is different and you know it. This is something that no one knows anything about.' She closed her eyes and looked down 'No matter how confident you try to be, I know you dont know whats happening to me.' She gritted her teeth as he said it was obviously her turn 'I didnt want to have a turn.' she sighed slowly, she knew that Edward in the past had caused grief to Carlisle and Esme, but that was through his life style choice. Alice had no choice in this and that made it all feel a lot worse. Having Carlisle there was strangely reassuring, perhaps it was because he was so much older and wiser. Though perhaps it was because at least with Carlisle she didnt have to worry about feeling things like she did around Jasper.
Family was more foreign to Alice than any other member of the Cullens. All of them remembered something about their families, even Carlisle knew about his father. Why was Alice so different? She didnt remember anything, the Cullens were her only family and she knew no different. 'I... I know, but I cant just say nothing Carlisle.' She didnt care if they didnt expect her to apologise, she felt she needed to. 'I dont want to be the cause of the tension in the house, I want everything to go back to normal. I want Jasper to feel comfortable again... I want you... I want you to be certain again.' She stumbled a little over her words, not really knowing how to express how she felt, it was hard for her to explain, she was so used to just letting Jasper feel her emotions, she never had to explain them, until now. This wasnt a talk she could have with Jasper, not without him freaking out on her, and not without putting him under even more stress. She really wanted to believe Carlisles words 'I hope so...' she whispered into his shirt.
Alice heard Carlisle as he asked her what was wrong, but her only thought was to get away from him, she didnt want to do anything she would regret later. 'Not again... Please... Not now...' She muttered under her breath just as she felt the second searing pain that made her stumble. She could feel the stairs rolling beneath her, but her head was swimming, it had never felt like this before and it scared her. As her body spasmed her eyes looked wildly around her, and to Carlisle before her eyes closed, she couldnt see anyone else there, she didnt know where the womans whispers were coming from, but the pain that shot through her body made her quickly forget about it. Her body lay there a Carlisle knelt beside her, she couldnt respond, infact she couldnt hear him. Somewhere in the back of her mind, her conscious lay pushed aside by something unfamiliar to her, though she herself wasnt aware of anything going on.
At first her fingers twitched, then the corner of her mouth. Then her eyes snapped open, she sat up quickly looking around her, taking in her surroundings. She turned and saw Carlisle, jumping swiftly to her feet and crouching, her eyes watching him as her head tilted slowly and a thin smile spread across her lips. Every movement was as un Alice like as they could be, there was something so collected about them. She took in a deep breath and let out a soft hiss as she familiarised herself for a moment. 'Carlisle...' Her voice was different, it was Alices voice but everything about it was wrong, she was speaking with a slight accent for one, and it was smoother, silkier. She slowly stood watching Carlisle closely, watching how he was reacting to her. She had been waiting a long time for this, she was going to enjoy it.
'Carlisle... I bring greetings for you, from an old friend...' She smirked again before she bared her teeth and launched for him, knocking him down the rest of the stairs. She had been waiting to get close to Carlisle, but that stupid mind reader had been getting in the way. Her masters would be most pleased if not only she brought them the psychic but also disposed of one of their biggest threats... She would be rewarded greatly for this deed, she was sure that Alice's human blood filled body would be stronger than Carlisle's animal blood... She was an adept fighter too and from what she had heard from her masters Carlisle was more of the talking type, that wouldnt work on her however. She was looking forward to a good fight, she would let him play for a bit before she finished him off, there was no fun in letting it happen too quickly... whos in the house?: Carlisle Cullen what I'm wearing: Here! count down!: 1104 lyrics in my head: Evanescence - Away from me who did this?: Moi! notes: Last post for the night... woooooo! Carlisle knew Alice wasn't exactly happy with the fact that she couldn't see what was going to happen or that she didn't know what was wrong with herself, but the fact there was something wrong tied into her not being able to see what was going to happen. This piece of information didn't exactly help Carlisle in trying to figure out what was wrong. There weren't many books or medical journals or anything about psychic vampires and what made them 'sick'. It was slightly frustrating, but anything on vampires was part and parcel with the human legends that everyone was so used to. They were so common, but it was apparent that not a lot of the human stories ever carried much of the important details. Every story changed over time and a lot were so unbelievable, for him as a vampire at least, that it was almost laughable what people claimed to know about their kind. Oh, how wrong humans could be sometimes. He did have a lot of face in human beings, but their naivety was their downfall.
He knew that Alice felt like the family struggling was her fault. It wasn't. Everything was just mounting on top of everything else and things were being escalated to the point of ridiculous out blown proportions. They could work through this. Carlisle had faith in that. The family was strong enough to get through this. It was just another bump in the road that they had to contend with. Everything had just been sort of badly timed and started all at once. That was all. They could get through it. Alice's reluctance to believe that the family were all responsible for how things were going was probably not great when Jasper was relying on her to keep him balanced, as he always had done and he probably always would. The atmosphere around the house was still unsettled, but that was something that Carlisle knew would be fixed eventually. They just had to make sure they were in the clear with everything and then he was certain everyone would be able to get back to dealing with things as they always had.
Granted, he felt like certain people would take a lot longer to deal with a few of the new things around the family, for particular example, Rosalie coming to terms that Edward really wanted Damienne around...that would take a lot of time so he thought. He sighed sadly when he noticed the look in her eyes as she looked up at him again. “I know it's different,” he answered quickly, sounding a little short. He hadn't meant to sound short. He just didn't like the way Alice was dealing with the situation. She had to understand that he wanted the best for the family and that he wanted to make sure that they all stuck together through this. “I'm trying my best,” he offered in a soft, slightly disappointed tone. He wasn't disappointed in Alice, of course. He was disappointed in himself for not being able to produce the answers as quickly as he normally could. His jaw tensed as he watched her close her eyes and tilt her head down. He should have known she would know that he wasn't getting anywhere with his research. “I'm trying...” he offered in a whisper.
“None of us want to have a turn, Alice. It just happens,” he replied softly when she said she didn't want to have a turn. It wasn't like she had planned to bring the family to this situation. It had found her and it was bringing them all down with it. However, Carlisle would make sure that they stuck together and saw this through even if it killed him. He needed his family to be together. They were stronger together. He sighed softly as she said she just couldn't say nothing. “I understand that,” he said ever so softly. The last thing he wanted was to start an argument as to whether she should have apologised or not. He wouldn't have minded had she not apologised him. He could have lived without the apology. He scowled slightly, a look of concern clearly spreading across his face now. “It's the way everyone is choosing to deal with things that is causing the tension, Alice, not you,” he began, considering everything else she had said as he paused briefly. “Things will get back to normal, they always do,” he added.
He shrugged slightly when it came to Jasper. Jasper was always the wild card of the family. You couldn't really predict what he was going to do...unless you were a fully fit Alice or an actually paying attention Edward. “Jasper will adjust. You know how he can be with change,” he offered gently. The last thing she had mentioned was his certainty. He didn't want her to believe his certainty was at fault because of her. That wasn't it at all. “I'm still certain of a few things, such as we'll all get passed this...together,” he replied, holding Alice's gaze firmly. “Nothing will tear us apart,” he added in the same strong voice. “The only thing I'm not certain of is...what's wrong with you...what happened to you...” he admitted. He didn't want to admit that, but he couldn't lie to Alice. “Everything will be okay,” he whispered back to her expressed hopes. Such a fragile moment...which was then spoilt by something inside Alice's head. She was ignoring him as he questioned if she was alright. Was this the same thing that happened before?
'Not again...not now'. That was what she had mutter. It WAS the same thing as before. “Alice...” he called after her, despite knowing she was trying her best to ignore him. He held her gaze for the moment before she closed them again as she lay on the landing, her body shaking. He was slightly taken aback when her eyes snapped open and she sat up quickly. “Alice, are you alright?” he questioned with a scowl. He knew she wasn't...there was something not quite right about all this. He jumped to her feet as she did, scowl deepening on his face. This wasn't even Alice like. He watched her as she tilted her head a smirk spreading across her lips. She definitely wasn't acting right. He tried to move around her as she took in a breath and hissed. He stopped trying to move when she said his name. She didn't even sound like herself. The scowl remained on his face as he listened to her speak again in that unfamiliar tone. “What are you...?” he began to question before she bared her teeth at him and launched him down the stairs.
He felt the wood floor snap underneath his head and shoulders as they hit the floor first, the rest of his body splaying out and cracking the rest of the floor he landed on, Alice...or, at least Alice's body, pinning him to it. It didn't take him long to realise what was happening. He perhaps didn't know completely what was happening, but he could tell Alice apart from other people and this wasn't Alice anymore. “Who are you and what have you done to Alice?” he questioned carefully. He wasn't going to fight her. Regardless of who this was pinning him to the floor, the body was Alice's. He couldn't forgive himself if he caused it harm and he certainly knew that Alice, and Jasper for that matter, wouldn't forgive him either. He probably couldn't forgive himself if he started a fight, full stop. It was bad enough he'd already managed to break something, but that wasn't really through any fault of his own. However, he could have done with being more prepared. “What do you want?” he asked in the same careful tone as before.

It was hard for Alice not to blame herself for everything that had happened. Everything had gone wrong since that first day in Carlisle's office and everything since then had happened because of that first incident. Carlisle seemed to have so much faith in her and in the rest of the family, however Alice was finding it difficult to come to terms with any of it. True it was harder with the fact that Alice had to try and be composed for the sake of Jasper. If Alice let her emotions run wild then Jasper really would suffer and things would be ten times worse. On the other hand, if Alice hadnt have attacked Jasper then he would feel more in control of himself. Jaspers moods affected everyone which made Alice feel so much worse, it was a vicious cycle, if Alice was sad, Jasper was sad, if Jasper was sad the whole family felt sad, which made Alice feel even worse. Sometimes Jaspers gift was a miracle, sometimes it was a real burden. She wouldnt change him for the world however, he was her soulmate and nothing would change that.
Alice felt herself flinch slightly at Carlisle's short reply, she knew he was frustrated so she couldnt blame him for it. Alice had a feeling he wasnt telling everything to Esme, which was unusual but she had a feeling he was trying to protect her. Then again, by doing that Carlisle had no one to vent all his feelings to... She imagined he felt a lot like her sometimes, she too couldnt tell her mate everything that went through her mind. She felt so guilty when he said he was trying his best. She could hear the disappointment in his voice and it hurt her to know that Carlisle was beating himself up over this. 'I know Carlisle... I... I dont blame you for anything. I know your doing your best for me, the best for the family. I can only begin to imagine how frustrating this all is for you.' Though she knew it was frustrating for him, all the same he couldnt be anywhere near as scared as she was. At the end of the day if there was no cure Alice knew the future looked very grim indeed. Carlisle and the rest of the family, their lives would move on eventually after all of this. Alice wasnt so sure hers would.
Alice had never brought trouble to the family, infact she was used to being the one that kept them out of trouble by seeing potential problems in the future. She sighed gently as he spoke, saying he understood. The soft calmness had returned to his voice and it helped to soothe her slightly. She listened as he spoke and she sighed slightly, it was all a bi product of her problems that was causeing all of this mess, so in reality it was her fault. She looked up to Carlisle as he said that everything would go back to normal 'What if this time is different? What if normal is never the same again?' Normal for the Cullens never lasted for long, though what happened if this time normal was without her? Alice couldnt help the negative thoughts or feelings. When Jasper and Edward werent around she let her thoughts and feelings take over. She was so tired from hiding it from them and it exhausted her mentally to keep it up all the time. She wanted to be able to let Edward see what she thought and let Jasper feel exactly what she was feeling but she simply couldnt...
The thought of having to just accept that Jasper would have to adjust scared Alice. She knew Jasper wasnt as strong as her, she was his rock and right now she was crumbling away. Jasper relied so heavily on her and she was really letting him down. Without Alice being there to keep him in check there was no telling what Jasper would do and the only other person that could keep him in check was Edward, but he had other things on his mind right now to be looking out for him. 'I hope so.' She whispered softly. She looked into his eyes as he spoke, he seemed so sure that they would pull through as a family, had he ruled out that she might not make it through? What if something did happen to her? It would tear the family apart, she didnt even want to think how Jasper might react. She sighed softly in his embrace, a moment that was so special and so unusual. Alice had never been like this with Carlisle, she showed very little physical emotion with Jasper, let alone with the rest of the family.
Alice cursed herself that the moment was broken so suddenly. She didnt want Carlisle to worry, she wanted to get away and protect him from it. The thing that struck her though was this was different... There was no blood and she didnt quite understand why. She knew Carlisle was calling after her, but she just wanted to be alone, she couldnt drag him into this, she was scared and she didnt know what would happen this time. The pain was totally different this time, shooting down her spine and the spasms. As the light faded she almost felt like she was floating, it was something she had never felt before. She wondered if this was what it felt like to die, perhaps this was the end of it, she hated that Carlisle had to be there, to witness this happening... How would he explain this to Jasper... Jasper, he was her final thought before everything finally faded and she lost conciousness.
Valentina had been waiting such a long time to get close enough to Alice to see how much of a hold she had over her. Her last fit had been extreme and had weakened the young vampires mind greatly, which was perfect for her. She had to be careful though, she was risking a lot by exposing herself. If things went wrong she could make things harder for herself. However that would making things more of a challenge and she loved a bit of a challenge. With the mind reader out of the house, even if the others came home they wouldnt know she was infact so close to them, she had been observing the mind reader from afar and she had noticed his attachment to the young human girl, she was certain he wouldnt return any time soon, this gave her plenty of time to do what she planned. Her masters were going to be so pleased when she returned, they had chosen well sending her to deal with the Cullens, she would get them what they wanted... and more.
A slight chuckle graced her lips as Carlisle started his question, how touching, he really did know his darling daughter didnt he? Aro had told her of Carlisle's strange ways, how he lived as a human, helping them and not feeding from them. It certainly wasnt something she herself would ever do. She had lived the Volturi life for a long time and it suited her just fine. The thought of feeding off animals made her stomach turn, it wasnt natural, plus it made you weak. That point was proven when she easily sent Carlisle flying, but then Aro had also told her that Carlisle was the compassionate type, he was unlikely to fight back, he would rather talk his way through a situation. She had been told the stories of when Carlisle had lived in Volterra, how he had tried in vain to get them to change. She hadnt been there then, but she felt as if she knew Carlisle greatly from what she had been told and what she had heard as well. It really was going to be all too easy to dispose of him, she wondered why they hadnt tried before... They would be most pleased if she came back and told them of her deeds though.
She simply laughed as he asked who she was and what she had done with Alice 'Alice is still here' She smirked as she looked down on him, he was a very handsome vampire, she had to give him that. It was such a shame he was simply on the wrong side of this, it was such a shame he thought of others rather than himself. 'Oh you love her dont you? You love her as if she really was your daughter... How very touching, but so very... Weak.' She laughed as he asked what she wanted, her hand reached up his chest to his neck, wrapping her fingers around it and grasping it strongly. 'Hmm, what do I want?' She chuckled gently as she considered her words 'I want to prove once and for all what a weak minded fool you really are...' She let out a growl as she quickly shifted her weight to the ground next to Carlisle and threw him from her grip on his throat across the room and into the wall. She heard and felt the wall crack and shudder under his weight, then suddenly she was there, her throat around his neck again, pinning him there.
Valentina wasnt a mind reader, she knew very little of Carlisle, he hadnt been her target to begin with. Seeing him there in the flesh though had convinced her that this was going to be key in her plan. If anything went wrong and she had to pull out she was sure that Alice would be traumatised by what she awoke to... If not she would be able to dispose of Carlisle after toying with him and then bring Alice to her and her job here would be done. The Cullens wouldnt have their leader or their psychic and they would be lost and confused. Of course she knew that the Volturi also wanted the mind reader, but if she did a good job with Alice she was sure that they would send her back for him... Then, finally, Aro would have bested the Cullens and he would have Alice and Edward in his personal guard... After a bit of mind conditioning of course. Of course she had learned more about the third gifted Cullen, Jasper. His gift was interesting and it certainly could be useful. Of course she would report everything back to the Volturi when she got back.
She leaned in to whisper in Carlisle's ear 'Tell me Carlisle... Do you not fight back because you are weak and pathetic? Or because you feel bad that you will be harming poor little Alice?' She let her other hand move down and she ripped his shirt down the front and she laid her palm on his chest, pushing him harder into the wall. She wondered how far she could push him before he snapped and defended himself. He seemed to be having trouble fighting back simply because she was using Alice's body. 'Such a shame Carlisle... Aro never told me how handsome you were...' A wicked grin flashed across her face as she looked over Carlisle. She knew how hard Alice had been finding her torture, she knew the lengths her family were going to to make her feel better... But the guilt was still there, poor little Alice didnt want to be a threat to her family. She let out a loud his as her nails dug deeply into Carlisles skin and she sunk her teeth into his exposed shoulder. She wanted to provoke a reaction from him... She wanted him to put up a fight. whos in the house?: Carlisle Cullen what I'm wearing: Here! count down!: 1960 lyrics in my head: Evanescence - Away from me who did this?: Moi! notes: Erm... *hides* [/blockquote]

Carlisle was just trying to do right by the family and if that meant leaving out a few details with them, then so be it. He would have to live with it. He didn't support the idea of lying to them, but he was just lying by omission. He didn't want things to escalate anymore than they already had. They couldn't afford that. They definitely wouldn't be able to cope as well as they had been doing if things had seemed any worse. His gaze on Alice shifted downwards to the floor as she spoke to him. “You might not blame me, but I blame myself,” he began, a heavy scowl on his face as he looked at the floor, tucking his hands into his pockets. “My 'best' isn't exactly good enough right now though, is it? We still don't know what's wrong with you,” he continued, lifting his gaze to Alice. He didn't meant to get worked up about it, but this was his family being screwed around with and his 'best' wasn't really helping any of them. He cast his eyes down, shaking his head slowly when Alice said she could only imagine how frustrating this was for him.
The point was that he wasn't supposed to get so worked up about things. He never did. He was meant to keep level headed and then come to the conclusions that, at the end of the day, the family may not want to hear, but it was what had kept them going for so long. He tilted his head slightly, considering Alice's questions. “I think it's obvious that this time is different and I wholly imagine that 'normal' will never be the same again...but that has nothing to do with what happened to you,” he answered. He only believed that their 'normal' would be changed by the fact that Edward had found someone he felt so strongly about, that he was brightening up within himself, despite how conflicted he was with it as well and by the fact that they had Fae to think about now and he knew that no one was going to give that little girl up easily. He never contributed to his thoughts about their 'normality' being changed in link to the problems with Alice and what had happened to her. He would have never thought to consider it until she seemed to try and tie them together.
It never ceased to amaze him how a perfectly sweet moment could be taken away from them as quickly as it was being now, the sudden change in Alice being more than just a little bit apparent. He didn't like the sound of the chuckle that escaped 'Alice's' mouth as he started to try and talk himself out of this one, narrowing his eyes slightly at her. This definitely wasn't their Alice. “If Alice is still here...” he began, shaking his head in disbelief. “She wouldn't do this me,” he said through gritted teeth. It wasn't often he lost his temper, but guaranteed he would lose his temper about people messing with his family. He remained silent, his jaw tight and his teeth grinding together as she taunted him about loving Alice like a daughter. His love for his family didn't make him weak. Alice would know that. It didn't take a genius to realise Alice couldn't help what was going on, even if she was still 'there' as this 'Alice' said. He felt a snarl rise up through his throat as she laughed, running a hand up his chest and wrapping it around his neck in a vice like grip.
He didn't like the way she sounded. He felt his body tense as she spoke and then shifted off of him, throwing him across the room into the wall, feeling the plastering shattering and coming off against his back. He didn't make it to the floor again because she was there, hand around her throat, a devilish look in her eyes. She wasn't going to stop, was she? Would he really have to fight her and make her stop? A growl rumbled in his throat as she questioned why he didn't fight back. It wasn't because he was weak or pathetic. He knew that much. This being Alice's body that was fighting him may have contributed to it, but he would always try and find a way out of a situation without hurting anyone. He would only resort to fighting back when he really had no other choice. He continued to remain silent, barely flinching as she ripped open his shirt, forcing him further into the wall, more of the plastering dropping from behind him to the floor. Why was she doing this? What did she need him for?
His hands balled up at his sides as she continued to speak. “Aro?” he questioned in a low growl. She was linked to the Volturi? He should have known. Who wanted to inhibit the Cullens more than anything? Who wanted to claim Alice and Edward for his own means? Aro. Of course. It was all starting to make sense now. Considering what was happening and putting the pieces together like he was doing made him worry about Edward. Would he become like this next? “Aro sent you did he?” he questioned, his calm tone returning now...but that was before she sunk her teeth into his shoulder. He let out a loud growl at the contact. “You...” he began, clamping his eyes shut, snarling through bared teeth. “Who are you?” he questioned, before lifting his hands to prise her hands away from his neck and to pull at the back of her hair. He would have to apologise profusely to Alice for all of this later, despite knowing she would probably be a lot worse with the apologies. That was the part he wasn't looking forward to later.
At the risk of his shoulder being badly scarred, he pulled sharply at the back of 'Alice's' head, ripping her teeth out of his neck, tilting her head back to look at her, as she still held him up by the throat. “Who are you?” he questioned again before managing to release her grip from his neck and shove her a little way away from him. “I think you can at least do me the pleasure of telling me your name before you get that close again,” he said in a low tone, eyes dark as he watched her, moving away from the wall, but not towards her, more moving around her field of vision. Aro had never tried something like this before. Even for him, this was a bit much. He surely didn't want Alice and Edward on his side that badly...did he? This was Aro and Carlisle had to admit he didn't really know him anymore. Some of his actions were relatively predicatable, but Carlisle would never have imagined the Aro would send someone like this to do his dirty work for him. Even for Aro, this was a low blow.

Alice slowly shook her head, she didnt want Carlisle to blame himself 'Its not your fault you dont know whats happening Carlisle... We take advantage of your knowledge because you are so much older than us, but it doesnt mean you know everything.' She knew it probably wouldnt help how he felt about the situation, but Alice felt bad that he was blaming himself when there was no need.'Your best is all I can ask for, I dont expect anything else.' She was already starting to decide that if it came to it she would leave the family. She would rather they be safe then her pose a real risk to them. She loved her family and she wouldnt let them sacrifice themselves for her, she wanted them to be happy, no matter what that meant for her. She felt that pang of guilt flood over her as Carlisle cast his eyes downwards, she didnt like seeing her father like this. He was normally so sure of himself but she had thrown a spanner in that, she had made him uncertain and made him feel as if he was failing his family, when in truth he was the only thing holding it together at the moment.
Alice had doubts in Carlisles condidence that life would be different but not because of what happened to her. She couldnt help but feel that the worst was yet to come reguarding her and her episodes. The very thought of it happening again was enough to make her frame shake, she didnt want to put her family through that again, especially not Jasper, not right now what he needed her so badly. 'You cant be sure how our lives will be changed by this Carlisle.' She whispered softly, even she didnt believe that Carlisle had not thought of the possibilities of Alice getting worse and her visions coming true. No matter how much he loved them he couldnt deny forever that it was a possibility. Even if he had brought himself to believe it not to be so Alice knew that it was a possibility, then again if her not being there meant the others were safe then so be it. She wanted her family to be safe above all else. She wasnt sure how Jasper would cope without her there, though she was sure that Carlisle and the others would help him cope somehow. She knew they would continue to look after him, even if she wasnt there to help them.
A cold laugh passed through her lips as Carlisle said Alice wouldnt do that to him 'I said she was here... I didnt say she was in control.' She could see the frustrastion in Carlisle rising, though he seemed to be holding it back. She had expected him to be a tough cookie to crack, that was just going to make it all the more fun for her. Valentina found it amuzing how much love he seemed to have for his family, she knew of course that Vampires often found mates, but even that to her was a sign of weakness. She had never taken a mate and she never intended to, other vampires were there for her to use... Even Aro wasnt safe from her, she had no real loyalty, except to herself. A thin smile spread across her lips as she heard him snarl, oh she had done very well in attacking the one thing he loved, his family. The brothers in Volterra had been right, Carlisle was weak, he cared too much for this so called family of his. She had no doubt that he would put his life on the line for them, but it seemed the family were starting to fall apart around him, this pressure had weakened him and it was satisfying to see.
With Alices strength from drinking human blood, flinging Carlisle across the room was as easy as anything. It still amazed her how he simply let her do it, not fighting back, though she could sense that he was starting to lose his temper. That would certainly make for a more interesting fight, though she was still confident he would lose against her. 'Hmm, yes, I thought you might recognise that name Carlisle...' She smirked as he spoke his name. Valentina knew all too well the stories of him going to live in Volterra in his vampire youth, by the looks of things Carlisle had changed very little from what the brothers had told her. 'Your a smart one Carlisle... Though you are not my target, how could I resist bringing Aro news of one of his old friends...' The care he seemed to first express as she sunk her teeth into his shoulder confirmed his suspisions, he was worried about harming the body of his dearest daughter. She could certainly us this to her advantage, she felt a light chuckled vibrate through her as he asked who she was before taking action to get her off him... Ever the calm and peaceful one, just as she had expected.
She let out a hiss as he yanked hard on her, ripping her from him, though she seemed to have taken a small chunk from his shoulder with her, which she proceeded to spit out. She took a step back as he pushed her from him, her eyes never left him for a moment 'So formal Carlisle... Oh but where are my manners?' She chuckled gently 'My name is written in dark legend, a tale few vampires live to tell, the secret weapon of the Volturi guard, kept only for those missions Aro deems fit for my service... Valentina is my name... Though my name will do you little good Carlisle.' She lunged for him again, her teeth bared and arms ready, she meant business this time and she was going to prove to Carlisle right there and then that he was weak. He had deluded himself for too long and soon everyone would know that even Carlisle Cullen was no match to the Volturi, the Cullen family would come to an end that day, she would make sure of that. whos in the house?: Carlisle Cullen what I'm wearing: Here! count down!: 1036 lyrics in my head: Evanescence - Away from me who did this?: Moi! notes: Meh... not as long as I thought it would be... Carlisle scowled slightly as Alice shook her head at him. “I should know what's going on,” he said, slightly irritated with himself. He was the father figure. He was meant to know what was going on and how to fix it as soon as he was able to. He shook his head slowly at her now when she said they took advantage of his knowledge. “No, you don't. None of you do,” he said, a lot softer than his previous words. He had never felt taken advantage of in his entire life. He was the father figure. He was meant to herald the answers that they needed. “Like I already pointed out, my best isn't exactly good enough right now, is it?” he questioned softly, letting out a heavy sigh. He tilted his head as she continued to disbelieve his idea of how the family would remain unchanged by this. “I can hope, can't I?” he questioned in a muttered tone, looking down at the floor now, unable to meet Alice's gaze. He was just trying to find out what was going on with Alice and help support her in any way he could. He felt like he was failing at both right now.
He narrowed his eyes at 'Alice' as she spoke. “I think that much is apparent,” he said in a distasteful tone in response to the idea that Alice was no longer in control. His scowl deepened as he regarded 'Alice' as she spoke about him recognising the name she had presented him with. “How could I fail to recognise it?” he questioned in a slightly snappy tone. A growl rumbled in his chest when she continued to taunt him, mentioning how she couldn't resist bringing Aro news of one of his old friends. “So you're just a low life bounty hunter then?” he questioned, not entirely sure that taunting was the correct way for him to go about this, but it was one way that he couldn't fail to try. “Aro has no business here,” he said through gritted teeth. The mention of Aro was only making him more and more irritated. He had sworn to leave the Volturi alone, so why were they interferring in his family's life again? It seemed they would get bored from time to time and try and send someone else to take the gifted members of his family away.
He snarled at the burning sensation as he ripped 'Alice' from his shoulder. It took seconds for that to pass and he remained focused on her the entire time. Without looking, he slowly ran his fingers along his shoulder where she had been clamped to him, feeling the new scar instantly as he listened to her explain who she was. “Valentina...?” he repeated in a low tone. He had heard that name before. Where? He remembered it as she charged at him. He grabbed at her wrist, spinning them both around, twisting her arm up around her back and pushing her into the wall where she had pinned him. He was going to hate himself for this later, but right now, he had to defend himself and this really did seem like the only way. He moved closer to her, to speak directly into her ear. “I've not had a nightmare since I was eight years old,” he began tormentingly. “That was 354 years ago and I was still human...you honestly think I'm going to be afraid of you?” he questioned in a big headed manner.

Alice gritted her teeth as Carlisle insisted that he should know what was going on with her. He was being so stubborn about it, it reminded her of one of her fellow siblings. 'I should be the one that knows whats happening Carlisle... Not you.' Her voice was merely a whisper, her family had gotten so used to using her gift to see what was going on, so the fact that Carlisle didnt know what was happening was partially her fault as well. Alice felt now as if they really did take advantage of his knowledge. Not only that but they took it for granted as well. Even if Carlisle wouldnt admit it, its how she felt inside. She sighed as he said it wasnt good enough 'I... I dont care.' She knew he was doing his best, to her that was all that mattered. She felt as if something inside her was breaking as Carlisle broke her gaze 'Carlisle... I dont want you to feel this way. Not over me...' For that moment they held each other she squeezed him gently. She didnt want her father to suffer over this. She was terrified of the situation it was true, however Alice had always been the one to think straight and she knew now, if it started affecting the rest of the family this way she would have no choice but to leave. She didnt want to be the cause of all of this.
Valentina was amused by his annoyance, attacking his family really was his weak point. It was obvious this vampire would do anything for them. Such emotional ties showed weakness, it meant there was something to use against them. Valentina had no such ties, she had no obvious weaknesses, and that was the way she liked it. 'We are getting tetchy arent we? She chuckled softly. 'Where is this endless hospitality I had heard so much about?' She teased. She laughed as the realisation dawned on him, she knew that this vampire knew Aro and his brothers all too well. He had resided with them for a time, watched their way of life. Though never joined them, he still put up living with it... How had he survived she wondered. She laughed as he called her a low life bounty hunter 'Low life, I wouldnt say that... I am used only in the most special cases, and as it turns out I wasnt sent to kill you... Oh no... That I have taken upon myself for sport instead.' She could sense that he was trying to get a rise from her, it wasnt going to work 'Oh but he does... You know all too well that hes been watching you and your... Children.' Aro wanted Alice and Edward for his guard, that was no secret, they had gifts he wanted and Aro was going to get them one way or another.
A cold smirk spread across her lips as he turned and pushed her up against the wall, he was starting to fight back, good... The tone in his voice had changed, oh this was so precious, she was really starting to get to him. 'Hmm, really? Well perhaps you need a reminder?' She hissed as she curled her fingers on her free hand around part of his clothing. She closed her eyes and concentrated, it wouldnt be her full power, but it would be enough... 'Oh you really should be... I'm a VERY sore loser' She hissed as she sent a shooting pain through his head, knowing it should be enough for him to at least loosen his grip on her. As soon as he did she spun round and knocked him flying across to the other side of the room, she was instantly by his side again however as she then slammed him into the ground, seeing the flooring shatter beneath him. She leaped onto him, her hands pinning his shoulders, her feet on his stomach as she looked into his eyes. 'You have never known pain like mine Carlisle... Even Janes power is weak in comparison.' She looked into Carlisle's eyes, they were such an interesting shade... It really was a pity that she had to kill him... it really was.
She moved one hand to grip his right arm, resting her knees on his chest to leave her other hand free from pinning him. Her hand moved to his face and caressed it gently, watching his eyes before a wicked grin spread across her lips. All in one swift movement her face moved forward, her lips clashing with his as she pulled hard on his arm, pulling it clear from his torso, throwing it across the room. In the same moment however she sent shocks of pain through his body, her teeth grazed his lips as she growled in satisfaction. Her nails from her now free hand ran down his bare chest as she continued the pain, her lips not parting from his for a moment. She continued to try and push her power harder, pushing as much through his as she could, however she realised a little too late that she was trying perhaps a little too hard. She felt as the world around her started to darken, her connection with Alice was failing, she cursed as her lips parted from his and her eyes closed, her awareness was shifting from the Cullens house to where her real self was in the forest, she had been foolish, but oh it had bee worth it. As Valentinas consciousness left Alices body, Alice's form slumped down onto Carlisle, limp and motionless, like a puppet whos strings had been cut.
As the pain subsided from Carlisle they were transformed to the now awakening Alice, as the blackness started to fade she felt the sharp pains running through her like she had before. Her eyes remained shut closed as her hands curled around what ever it was she was ontop of. As the pain started to subside she felt her senses coming back, she gasped at the strong taste of Carlisle on her lips, her body shuddering as she opened her eyes for the first time to the horrors Valentina had wreaked. She looked down to see she was lying ontop of Carlisle, she let go immediately, jumping back off him with a terrified look in her eyes as she looked at him. Her stomach clentched tightly at the sight of her father, she couldnt have done that surely? Her eyes lingered on the fresh scare on Carlisles shoulder her hand came up to her mouth as a look of pure terror filled her eyes before she noticed his arm, her whole form trembled as she then started to take in the carnage around her... She had been right, she was a threat to her family, she was endangering them all by being there.
'Carlisle... What... What have I done?' Her voice barely audible, she backed away from him, backing up until her back made contact with the wall. She was confused, last time she had the memories, but the last thing she remembered was running from Carlisle. However it was obvious this was done by her, she really was becoming a monster, she had attacked the one person who was trying his hardest to help her. She couldnt take the feeling that swelled inside her, the guilt and the disgust of what she had apparently done. The next thing she knew she was bolting for the door, she had to get herself away from Carlisle, away from the family, she needed to protect them from what she was becoming. She didnt need to know what she had done in detail, what she had seen was more than enough to tell her that she was dangerous. Carlisle might not know what was going on, but that wasnt going to stop Alice from protecting the ones she loved from what ever it was. It would hurt to leave them behind, especially Jasper, but they would cope somehow... She was sure of it. whos in the house?: Carlisle Cullen what I'm wearing: Here! count down!: 1354 lyrics in my head: Evanescence - Away from me who did this?: Moi! notes: Poor Alice [/blockquote]

Carlisle let out a soft, sad sigh when Alice said that she should be the one who knew what was going on. She was the one that things were happening to, things that affected her gift, so how was she supposed to know? She relied on her gift a lot in times like these. Carlisle would never have thought that she would have known and, with things being as they are, he didn't imagine that she should know what was going. He wasn't relying on her to tell him, he just needed to hear the symptoms. It was pretty obvious she definitely wasn't going to listen to him in this instance and he wasn't going to continue arguing with her about it. What was the point in wasting his words if she wasn't going to take them in in the way he had intended to be taken in? He just didn't understand how she thought she should know what was going on when she was trying to rely on her gift to help her and, the fact was, that it was more than obvious that that gift was letting her down right now. All he was trying to do was help.
He lowered his gaze when Alice said she didn't care. It wasn't often he heard those words come out of her mouth. It was even less often he heard those words come out of her mouth in a situation such as this. He turned his gaze bac to Alice as he heard her speak again. “I only feel this way because I care, Alice,” he began, scowling slightly as he observed her. “Would you rather I didn't care?” he asked softly, a pained tone straining his voice. “I'd feel this way if this were happening to any of the others and you know it,” he continued softly. “It's not like I'm treating you any differently than I would any of them,” he added. He probably didn't sound encouraging, but he felt like he was saying what needed to be said. He wasn't giving her any special treatment or acting out more just because it was Alice that this was all linked it. As he had said, he would be same if it were any of the others. He felt like it was just one of those things that was what parenting was all about. He had grown used to it.
Carlisle glared at the vampire standing before him. This wasn't Alice anymore and, with the way she was carrying on, she wasn't making it easy to forget that fact. He growled slightly as she questioned him about being tetchy. He was certain if she wasn't like she was and if she was more like he was and like his family was that she would understand. There was no point explaining herself to this creature standing before him. “There's no point to offer hospitality to creatures like you,” he retorted carefully in response to her teasing. His normally level voice was filtering between annoyance and pure anger. Aro had no right interfering in his business. He had thought he had made that perfectly clear with their last encounter. The Cullens wanted nothing to do with the Volturi, so the Volturi should have known better. Yes, they outnumbered the Cullens, but that wouldn't stop them in their attempts to stick to their own side. They would never join with the Volturi. Carlisle had been part of that once and he wasn't going back to it.
He narrowed his eyes as he watched Valentina. “You're just another puppet that they bring out when they don't have the decency to do a job themselves,” he replied quickly when she said she was only used for special cases and that killing him was something she had taken upong herself for the means of sport. “You'll never get away with it. You'll never kill me,” he said, his tone set and stubborn as he observed the niave vampire standing before him. He growled again as she spoke about how it was Aro's business and that he should know that the vampire had been watching him and his family. “And that is all he is permitted,” he began in a snarl. “He has no right to be sending his pawns in here,” he continued, the anger rising in his tone as he continued to speak about Aro and his 'business' with the Cullens. His scowl deepened as she spoke. How was she supposed to 'remind' him when he had her pinned against a wall? He really should think a little more when he was angry and acting out of impulse.
He felt the fingers from her free hand curl around part of his clothing, glancing down for a brief moment at the sudden contact. What was she doing? He lifted his eyes, scowl remaining on his face as she continued to speak. That was right before the searing, dizzing pain shot up into his head, causing him to clamp his eyes shut and wince in pain, loosening his grip on Valentina's arm. He opened his eyes again just as she launched him across the room, reaching his side before he'd even properly hit the floor, slamming him into it with extra force, feeling the flooring shattering under his back. He searched his eyes as she spoke, not opening his mouth again. She wasn't worth it. He should have seen that from the beginning. She wasn't worth his words, just like he had said she wasn't worth his hospitality. His eyes glanced down as she shifted, pinning him down with her knees on his chest. What was she up to now? He lazily brought his gaze back up to her face to be greeted by that wicked grin of hers.
Thing two things happened as once, all too quickly. She leant forward pressing her lips viciously against his and pulling hard at his right arm, pulling it clean off. It wasn't for the pain already coursing through him, he might have fought back, but it was just so difficult. Everything was happening all at once and he couldn't seem to fight any of it. A vicious growl rumbled in his throat as the pain continued to pulse through his body and she ran her hand over his chest, not pulling herself away from his lips. A louder growl began to form in his throat as the pain levels increased. He gasped slightly as she pulled away from him, her eyes closing and the pain receding back into nothingness, gasping again as Alice's limp body fell against him. Was it over? His eyes searched around. He couldn't really do a lot as seen as he was lacking a limb. As he continued to glance around, he could see his arm slithering it's way back to his body. He let out a sigh of relief, closing his eyes as the pain completely washed away. It had to be over now.
“Alice...” he began, bending the best he could in order to sit himself up. “Alice, it's alright. I've worked it out,” he said, watching Alice closely as she backed up, pressing herself against the wall. He had an idea of what was going through her head. She would feel guilty once she realised this was her body that had done this to him and she would automatically blame it on herself. He didn't blame it on her. It was this Valentina girl. He finally made it to his feet as Alice bolted out of the door. “ALICE!” he shouted after her, despite it not even being necessary. He leant down, scooping up his dismembered arm. He held it up to his shoulder as he made his way out of the house to go after Alice, more focused on finding her than watching as the arm fused itself back onto his body. He rolled his shoulder as he continued to walk, eyes looking round for Alice, sense broadening as he tried to find her. “Alice?” he said softly, worry filtering through him now. “Alice, this isn't your fault...” he said, knowing she wouldn't listen, but he couldn't try anything else.

Alice relied so much on her gift that she felt blind without it, it had been all she knew. Her very first memories were of her future with Jasper, it was as if she had suddenly gone blind. She felt helpless, where she would normally be of some help she was only making things worse and even though she knew that Carlisle didnt want her to feel this way she couldnt help it. Her eyes closed as he said he only felt that way because he cared, she didnt want him to stop caring. She had never known family before coming to the Cullens and he had taught her so much. She loved him as a father, though she didnt remember her own. She knew no other way of life, so how could she wish it away? However it was this fear of not knowing any different that made her want to protect her family. If she was changing, if something was threatening this perfect life he had built for them, could she really ruin it for the others in the family? The Cullens always sought for a peaceful life, she knew it was difficult to find peace considering what they were, but Carlisle had managed it none the less. As it stood she was threatening that peace in their lives and if Carlisle didnt find a cure soon, then Alice knew she had no choice but to leave. She wasnt about to let them have to live forever knowing that she was a constant risk to them, she would rather they lived a peaceful life without her than a danger frought life with her... Her family deserved better than that.
She didnt mean to hurt Carlisle's feelings, she could hear the pain in his voice as he spoke. This situation was taking its toll on both of them and she never meant to bring him so much hurt. 'Its not that Carlisle. You... you know I dont mean it like that.' The sorrow that she felt seeped through into her words, she didnt want Carlisle feeling like this, she didnt want any of her family to be pained by her. She knew he wasnt treating her any differently to the others, but this wasnt happening to the others, only to her. She knew she was putting a strain on the family, with all the other things going on, what if she did something that couldnt be undone? What if she brought harm to Fae or Damienne? She knew that Rosalie would never forgive her if something happened to Fae, and with the way that Edward was with Damienne she knew if anything happened it would destroy him. 'What if I do something... Something terrible? What then Carlisle?' Her eyes opened and she looked up into his, they were filled with worry and sorrow. She didnt mean to evoke such emotions in her father, but she didnt know who else she could turn to with these worries. Jasper was a loose cannon at the moment and Edward was finally finding happiness, she couldnt turn to them. She knew Carlisle was under so much stress at the moment, though at the same time, she knew he would never turn her away. 'I just want everything to be okay again.' She sighed gently as she moved to hug him, Alice was never like this, but right now she really felt that she needed it...
A smile creeped across Alice's face as he said there was no point in offering hospitality to creatures like her. 'And after all the hospitality the Volturi offered to you? Is this how you repay them?' She knew this would only provoke him more, she never imagined how fun it would be to pick at him. She knew that Carlisle kept himself out of trouble with the Volturi, however no matter how much he disliked it, they would always be there watching him. She knew that as soon as there was the slightest slip up, Aro, Marcus and Caius would come down on him like a tonne of bricks. Until then though Valentina was going to have her fun... Of course she felt that Carlisle needed a reminder that the Cullen's were far from safe from the Volturi's watchful eye. It seemed that they were getting too close to the humans they lived around, there was always the risk that the Cullen's would expose what they were and they certainly couldnt have that. 'You are becoming careless Carlisle...' She took in a deep breath, the scent of human lingered in the air... 'So now you invite the cattle into your home? You seem to be walking a very fine line.' She chuckled lightly, Aro certainly wouldnt be pleased to hear that the Cullens were entertaining guests now... Or maybe even keeping them as pets. That was something she could inform Aro once she got back, if she ever failed at destroying them before she left of course.
She laughed at his choice of words, calling her a puppet, how ironic. [color:lightgrey]'Oh no Carlisle... I think you will find I'm the puppet master... You underestimate me, and so does Aro.' She had never given Aro reason to doubt her and she never would until she saw where she could gain an advantage. Valentina didnt let Aro just use her... Aro was just as scared of her as most were scared of him. Her power was far greater than Janes and he knew she could turn into a threat, but she had never given him cause to believe she would bring him any harm. Carlisle seemed so sure of himself, how amusing 'And what makes you think that Carlisle? Unless of course you have been hiding some power from us... Which I doubt.' She chuckled softly as he said Aro had no right sending his 'pawns' to interfere with their lives. 'He has every right' She hissed through her teeth at him. 'It seems you have forgotten you place Carlisle... The Volturi are our leaders, whether you like it or not, they make the rules... not you!' Valentina found it amusing that he seemed to be placing himself above the Royal family. He really was getting too big for his boots, he needed someone to bring him down a notch and she was more than happy to be the one to do that. Of course Carlisle had no idea exactly how powerful Valentina was, nor did he know the extent of what she could do with it. This all worked to her advantage, she knew she had the element of suprise when she grabbed his clothing. She heard the wince and a cruel laugh escaped her lips, as his grip loosened, she perhaps enjoyed her job too much. As she pinned him to the ground she took in his golden eyes, they were beautiful, she had to give him that. All the same though it was a sign of his weakness, a vampire could survive off animal blood but it weakened them. His pathetic attempts to defend himself showed to her how true this really was, weakened from his years of shunning what he really was. She watched as he struggled... Against the pain that was searing through his body, and with the shock of his daughters form acting in such a way to him. She never passed a chance to rub salt into the wound and this was just the thing that gave her a thrill. Of course she had gotten carried away, it was a mistake she realised all too late as her grip on Alice started to fade. She cursed herself for being careless. This would make things harder, but she liked a challenge... 'Until we meet again Carlisle' she thought to herself, she had little doubt she would be seeing him again some time soon. He wouldnt be able to keep her away for long. Next time, she would finish the job, next time she would succeed. Alice had never felt so confused about her surroundings, she didnt understand how she had gotten where she was. She certainly had no idea how the room had gotten into the state it was now in. Debris littered the broken floor and she had no idea how it had gotten into this state. When her eyes met with Carlisles a feeling of dread overtook her, she knew then that this was her... She had done this, she didnt know how, but somehow all of this mess was her fault. The taste of Carlisle on her lips made her shudder, she wiped them with the back of her hand, trying to get rid of the taste, with little success. Alice barely even realised Carlisle was speaking, the shock was so deep that the words seemed to bounce off her. All the thoughts that ran through her head stopped the words from sinking in. A total numbness had over taken her, she not only had attacked her mate now, but she had attacked her father now. She had attacked the one person trying to help her as best he could. How many more of the family would she have to attack before they realised she was a risk? She couldnt let her family put themselves through this, no matter how much they said it wasnt her fault. How did they know? How could they be so sure this wasnt her fault, they had no idea what was going on. The guilt flooded her senses, when would she be able to stop feeling this way? The emotions were far too much for her to cope with, she was so glad that Jasper wasnt there, she didnt need him feeling any worse than he already did. As she bolted for the door she heard Carlisle shout her name, it hurt to see her father like that and yet he still called after her. She guessed she shouldnt have expected anything less of him, he loved them all unconditionally, even if they did want to rip him apart it seemed. However Alice couldnt let him put himself in danger over her, she was a threat and so she was removing herself from the situation. Once she was out of the house she took to the trees trying to put as much distance between them. However hearing Carlisle say it wasnt her fault made her pause for a moment in the branches, how many times had she heard that? How many times was it going to be said? She felt guilty, watching him in the distance, she loved her family so much, she hadnt lived by herself for a long time but she knew it was for the best. As she turned and continued moving through the trees her eyes glazed over as once again the vision of her on the forest floor came into view. She gasped as she misjudged the jump, falling to the ground, the sound of her stone like body hitting the ground sent an echo through the forest. She curled up and wrapped her arms around her legs where she fell, she didnt want that vision to come true, she was so scared. She was so confused and she didnt know where to go from here, everything lead to that vision, she didnt understand how she could change the outcome. She didnt want to die... But then again she didnt want to hurt her family either, either way she couldnt win. She heard as Carlisle moved towards her, she didnt make any more attempt to get away, she didnt know where to go from here. If her visions were right then all roads lead to the same fate. She looked up as Carlisle approached where she lay, it broke her heart to see her father there standing over her, his new scar laid bare for anyone to see. The guilt that flooded through her was unbareable, the horror in her eyes reached deep into her inner emotions. How would Carlisle explain this to the rest of the family, there was so much damage to the house, he couldnt pretend it hadnt happened. What would the family think of her then? Would they fear her and what she could do to them? What if she managed to kill one of them, or Fae, or Damienne? What would become of her then... Her own family would hate her, they would hate her just as much as she hated herself. 'mia coupe...' She muttered... It really was all her fault. tags:: alice cullen. word count:: 752. outfit:: here lyrics:: 'meet my maker' by good charlotte. Carlisle scowled slightly as Alice spoke. She wasn't making much sense, then again, he could understand that given the situation, of course. “Then what is it, Alice?” he questioned, trying not to sound pushy or condescending. “I'm just trying to understand,” he explained softly, reaching up and rubbing the bridge of his nose, the scowl fading from his features. He lowered his hand, refocusing on Alice. “You should know that,” he added as a slight after thought. “What could you possibly do, Alice?” he asked. “What could you do that we couldn't help you put right?” he reiterated, making his initial question more specific. Couldn't she see that they would be there for her regardless? They could help if she let them. “You just have to trust us,” he offered, fighting away the uncertainty he felt creeping into his tone. He wasn't sure she would trust them at the end of the day. This was her problem and she seemed determined to keep it to herself and keep the rest of them out of it. “Like you always have,” he went on in a low tone.
He sighed gently. “Have faith,” he said simply, understanding that she probably found that very difficult right now. The contrast between Valentina and Alice was so outstanding, so extreme, it was difficult to NOT notice it. He disregarded the person before him as his daughter. This wasn't Alice, this was Valentina. He wouldn't hold any of this against Alice and he hoped she would see that once this was over. It would be over. He couldn't stand by and let it continue if he could do something to get rid of this little vixen. “You're of no consequence to me,” he snarled. “You never showed me hospitality,” he explained, emphasising the 'you'. “They, however, did,” he went on, emphasising 'they' this time. “You're just an interference, an inconvenience,” he mumbled, a heavy scowl shaping his face. “Careless? Hardly,” he said in a slightly mocking tone. He narrowed his eyes at her as she spoke about the 'cattle'. “They are not cattle and, right now, it's you that's walking a VERY fine line,” he retorted, anger building more and more within him.
He shook his head, considering Valentina's words for a moment. “If you think Aro underestimates you, why do you do his dirty work?” he inquired, trying to keep his voice level, though knowing that she would pick up on his obvious interference. “Why continue to...degrade yourself by bending to the will of someone...inferior to you?” he continued to ask, emphasising the degradation and inferiority of the situation. If she thought she was better than the rest of them, why did she take orders in the first place? Also, why had Aro not picked up on this and done something about it in the first place? She was clearly of more value than he could have first anticipated. “I may not have power, certainly nothing such as you have...but I have a great deal more meaning...more support than you could ever hope to have,” he observed in a low tone. “He has NO right,” he replied, anger instantly returning to his tone. He had done so well in trying to make his voice level, but she had simply set his anger off again. He never imagined anyone could make him so frustrated.
He shook his head as Valentina spoke about how the Volturi were the leaders, they made the rules. “There's making the rules and then there's bending them, sometimes to the point of breaking them,” he observed in a snarled tone. He knew all too well how the Volturi made the rules, but didn't see how they would need to apply them to themselves. They were self centred like that: always setting different standards for themselves over everyone else. “Just to suit their little pointless pursuits,” he added with a growl. When she caved in and Alice finally returned, he knew instantly that she would feel guilt and he couldn't stop that, especially as she jumped up and ran off. Trying to catch up to her wasn't going to be easy...“Alice, don't be like this...” he called after her, hearing her words. “You're better than this...stronger than this,” he shouted, trying to be as encouraging as possible. He stopped, lowering his head and letting out a sad sigh. “Alice, please...” he pleaded gently.

Alice really didn't know how to say what she wanted to, she was having trouble expressing herself and she had never had that problem before. 'I'm not so sure I understand myself anymore.' She admitted looking to the floor. His words seemed to weigh heavily on her mind as he asked he what she could do that they couldnt put right. 'I almost killed Jasper... If you hadnt been in the house... Then what?' She shuddered at the thought, she knew exactly what. If they had been alone Alice would have killed her mate and there was no way Carlisle could fix that wrong. She didn't want to hurt anyone or put them in danger and she didnt understand why Carlisle couldnt see this. 'I do trust you Carlisle... I just dont trust myself' She admitted. She knew her family would help her any way they could. They would do anything and everything within their power. But she simply couldnt trust herself around them anymore, she guessed that was what it really boiled down to. Everything they had done had been to help her, yet every time it just got worse. Collapsing in the woods was one thing, but attacking Jasper? She wasnt recognising herself anymore, she felt like she was losing who she was. She was having difficulty in finding the Alice that everyone knew and loved instead of the monster she seemed to be turning into. 'I will try Carlisle... I promise.'
Valentina's cold laugh filled the room as he said the Volturi showed him hospitality where as she didnt. She knew that Aro had found Carlisle and his ideals amusing and thats why he had let him linger in their ranks for so long. She always believed that perhaps Aro was trying to break him to see how strong he was mentally, but physically Carlisle was weak, she could see that. 'You seem to forget that Aro cares not for the petty struggles of vampires, only that our secret remain hidden. Yet here you are mingling with them. One day they will find out and then... You all will be killed.' The smirk spread across her face, that was of course if she just didnt finish them all now. She could pick them off one by one and deliver the gifted ones to Aro and show him how powerful she really was. Carlisle didnt need to know how much Aro was or wasnt involved in her little mission. If things went the way she planned Carlisle would never know Aro wasnt involved and Aro would see her in a new dangerous light and thats exactly what she wanted. 'Who says I'm doing his dirty work? Any of the Volturi guard would be honoured to bring the Seer to Aro.' And that was exactly why she had reserved the honour for herself and herself alone. She was going to get the glory of this... If she could she might even drag that mind reader right along with her.
All of the events that had lead up to this had taken its toll on Alice. Her emotions were being played with without her knowing, making her feel insecure. She had never felt this way and her self doubt was taking over her completely. She had never doubted herself in the past and yet recently everything was making her doubt. The incident with Jasper had torn her apart completely, although she knew she had been hungry, that she wasnt herself, if she could attack her mate surely she was a danger to everyone. Seeing the destruction she had wraught on Carlisle had only confirmed these fears. Carlisle was only trying to help her and yet she had managed to hurt him, when were they going to realise she was a real threat? How many other family members would she have to harm before they realised she was dangerous and stop telling her that she was being harsh on herself? She heard Carlisle tell her she was stronger than all of this. She couldnt see how she was, how could she be strong if she was attacking those that were trying to help her. She sat up from where she had landed and looked back towards where Carlisle was, why did he have so much faith in her? She truely couldnt understand it at all.
She didnt like hearing the pleading tone in Carlisle's words. She hated herself for what she had done, no matter what the reason was she was dangerous. 'What ever is wrong with me... Its making me dangerous... I can't let myself harm you.' No matter what it took she would protect her family, she hugged her knees and rocked gently trying to find some sort of comfort. If she could almost kill Jasper and Carlisle there was little hope for her, she would rather die then be a danger to all of them. She had made her mind up now, she was going to do what ever she thought was best for the family, regardless of what they all said. She wasnt going to sitback and watch them suffer for something she was doing. He had said he had worked it out, but she was unsure she wanted to know what he had to say. 'What is wrong with me Carlisle? Why is this happening to me?' He held on tightly to her legs waiting for the answer, dreading what her father was going to tell her. Dreading what the rest of the family will soon find out, that she really was a terrible danger to all of them. whos in the house?: Carlisle Cullen what I'm wearing: Here! count down!: 940 lyrics in my head: Evanescence - Away from me who did this?: Moi! notes: Posty Posty Dory is Haaaapppy!
